Chapter 28 Building A Defense
[It doesn’t seem so bad after all, does it?]
[I’m never eating that. It’s disgusting. Why would anyone eat offal?]

[What makes you feel superior just because you avoid offal? You have offal in your own belly, and what’s inside yours is…]
Layla gathered some blades of grass, tied one end of the large intestine, and set it aside for later.
She needed to prepare the blood. Traditionally, egg was added to boudin noir, but they had no eggs. Water would have to do.
Not just any water. It was the broth from stewing the lion’s head. After cooling, she mixed it with lion’s blood, added chopped cooked meat, seasoned it with salt, and stuffed the mixture into the intestine using a bamboo tube.
“Come help me,” Layla said, nodding towards the grass for Shane to tie it. “Tie it here.”
A single boudin noir shouldn’t be too long. It needed to be tied in the middle with a grass rope.
Together, they quickly finished filling the boudin noir, leaving a few large intestines unused.
Layla considered. “I’ll make you chitlins tomorrow.”
Meanwhile, Shane had completed building the table, placing the stuffed boudin noir in a clay pot on it.
“Add more wood to the fire. We need to boil these tonight,” Layla instructed, then turned to wash her hands.
Shane obediently added more wood.
Outside, it was dark, with only the firelight illuminating the scene.
Shane sat by the fire, watching Layla wash her hands.
Pink spoonbills were considered elegant, and Layla was beautiful.
Before this, Shane had never really contemplated a female’s appearance.
Nothing captivated him more than a mecha.
But now, with firelight illuminating her silhouette, he suddenly thought to himself. She’s beautiful.

Why hadn’t I noticed this before?
He looked down, deep in thought.
Is it because I hadn’t really looked closely before? Or does Layla seem a bit more lively now?
“Do you have plans for tomorrow?” Layla asked as she settled into her chair.
Shane contemplated, having yet to find the Starcore Ore after several days.
He said, “I’ll take you to pick coconuts.”
“What else?” Layla pressed.
Shane sensed she probably wanted him to do something. “What do you want me to do?”
“Talking to someone smart is so easy,” Layla replied. “We’ll be here for a while, and leaving it open won’t do. For now, we have enough food, so I plan to cut bamboo tomorrow and build a fence around our area.”
Shane understood that Layla aimed to survive on Planet A13 for a year.
Even if he found the ore soon, he might not leave when the three months ended.
Given the danger of the last few days, a defensive perimeter made sense.
He said, “Use bamboo for now. Later, we can get clay to plaster it. It’ll block the wind and keep
us warm.”
Layla agreed. “That’s exactly my plan, though finishing it might take more than a day.”
“It’s worth taking a few extra days for safety,” Shane replied.
Having a defense would help ward off many beast attacks since they couldn’t leave one person to guard permanently.
Since Shane agreed, Layla had no objections.
She put the boudin noir into the broth to cook.
“I’ll gather more clay and make some pots,” Shane said, moving a chair to the table, tearing off pieces of meat from the lion’s head to eat, and pouring salt into his bowl.
He realized they didn’t have enough pots for Layla, especially since one had been broken by
Liam.
Layla said, “Bowls might be easier than pots.”

Chapter 28 Building A Defense
:
By the time Layla finished cooking the boudin noir, Shane had eaten more than half.
Layla watched him with concern.
She had overestimated how long their lion would last.
At this rate, they’d be lucky if it lasted ten days.
She said, “Snake beastmen sure eat a lot.”
