Chapter 284 A Genius’ Fluster
Night settled over the cabin.
Layla lay on the bed as Shane finished washing up and stepped out of the bathroom.
He paused nervously, finding Layla propped up on the bed, watching him with a soft smile.
Shane climbed onto the bed awkwardly.
As he lay down, his nerves spiked instantly: Layla’s soft presence and natural sweet scent clouded his mind completely.
Despite being one of the galaxy’s most brilliant minds, he found himself utterly lost in this intimate moment, his body turning stiff all over.
They had shared a bed before, yet the atmosphere tonight left him inexplicably flustered.
Layla bit back a quiet laugh at his flushed face; the usually calm, reserved genius looked utterly adorable when shy.
She shifted closer to him, causing his ears to turn bright crimson.
Shane looked at her as if startled.
Tapping his ear lightly, Layla spoke teasingly, “Am I that intimidating?”
Shane shook his head quickly.
Seizing the chance, Layla snuggled into his chest, listening to the steady thud of his heartbeat while her fingers brushed lightly over his toned abs.
His physique was slimmer than the other men’s, yet still firm with defined muscle.
As a serpent shifter, his body naturally ran cool to the touch-a refreshing comfort against her skin that she couldn’t help but linger on.
Shane’s face burned hotter by the second, and he shifted awkwardly under her embrace.
Layla only held him tighter, tilting her head to meet his gaze.
“Do you not want me holding you?”
Shane shook his head frantically. “I do, it’s just…”
“Just what?” Layla raised an eyebrow, waiting for him to finish.
Shane’s cheeks flushed deeper still. “I’m not ready for anything more yet.”
Layla burst out laughing at his flustered confession.
Cupping his face in both hands, she teased him, “What on earth are you thinking? I just planned to sleep early. Were your thoughts wandering somewhere else?”

Chapter 284 A Genius Fluster
Already embarrassed, Shane looked as if he wanted to bury himself under the covers.
Layla’s mischief was sated, and she finally stopped teasing him.
They both burrowed under the covers, the bedding filling with the tangled scent of the two of them.
Leaning in, she pressed a light kiss to his forehead.
“It’s late. Sleep well-we’ve got resource gathering to do tomorrow.”
Shane’s racing heartbeat slowed to a calm rhythm.
With a gentle nod, he wrapped his arms gently around Layla. “Good night, Layla.”
“Good night,” she replied with a smile.
The next morning, Layla woke to a warm, savory aroma drifting through the cabin.
Stepping into the kitchen, she found Carson already preparing breakfast.
His cooking wasn’t as refined as hers, yet it smelled incredible all the same.
He had prepared simple pasta tossed with leftover game meat and fresh wild greens, all drizzled with a fragrant seasoned oil.
Breathing in the rich scent, Layla gave him a thumbs-up.
“I never would’ve guessed you’re such a talented cook, Mr. Fields. You carry yourself like a distinguished elite, yet you’re perfectly at home in the kitchen.”
Carson smiled as he set out forks and plates.
“I used to care for the young pups in my wolf pack. Simple home cooking came with the territory, though I can’t match your delicate, flavorful dishes.”
Taking a bite of the pasta, Layla shook her head. “You’re far too modest. With skills like this, you could sell yourself on the market.”
An awkward silence fell between them for a split second at her offhand comment.
They locked eyes and burst into quiet laughter.
The live chat flooded with playful reactions.
[LOL. Layla’s too cute!]
[Mr. Fields internally: She wants me to quit hunting and sell myself?]
[I love their casual daily dynamic so much-no drama, just warm, easy company.]
[Who said there’s no drama? Haven’t you seen George and Oliver? They’ve used every trick in the book on
