Chapter 285 Daily Tasks
George shot Oliver a disdainful look. “Nice act. The table’s three steps away from you, and you didn’t even bump the chair leg-it didn’t move an inch.”
Caught red-handed, Oliver shot George a sharp, silencing glare.
Nobody asked you to speak.
Reminded by George, Layla saw right through Oliver’s petty ploy, too.
With a helpless shake of her head, she scooped some meat onto his plate.
“Eat your breakfast quietly. Stop bickering first thing in the morning-you’ll both head out to gather supplies afterward.”
George and Oliver exchanged a resentful glare, silently blaming one another for getting scolded.
After breakfast, Layla divided up the day’s tasks.
Having spent plenty of time on Planet A13 already, they didn’t need to explore the wilderness as they had on M715.
She glanced at Shane with a subtle nod, well aware of his personal reasons for staying on the planet.
No strenuous chores were assigned to him; he was free to wander and tend to his own matters as he pleased.
“Liam and George will head out to hunt game today.”
“Oliver, clear and till the yard out front of the cabin.”
“As for you, Mr. Fields-follow your own pace and tend to whatever you need to do.”
Carson nodded calmly, showing no hint of emotion.
Shane tugged gently at Layla’s sleeve, gesturing for her to step aside for a private word.
“What is it?” Layla asked, thinking he had something important to discuss.
Glancing at Carson standing quietly in the distance, Shane lowered his voice. “Doesn’t it feel like Carson’s with us physically, but not fully settled into the group emotionally?”
Realization dawned on Layla at his words.
It was true-Carson worked tirelessly to contribute, yet his efforts felt like those of a stranger trying to fit into an established circle, not someone who belonged.
“Why don’t you show him around?” Shane suggested.
Layla thought it was an excellent idea.
While with Stella, Carson had never had a moment to explore Planet A13’s scenery, always stuck hunting day in and day out.

She nodded, patting Shane’s head gently before walking over to Carson.
“What are you planning to do today?” she asked.
Carson looked up in surprise at her approach, his voice low. “I was going to inspect the new defensive perimeter installed around the grounds.”
Layla gazed at Carson, so deeply moved that for a moment, she was choked for words.
Carson was focused on handling all those little details that were so easy to overlook.
Layla’s eyes swirled with complicated emotions.
She stepped closer, softening her voice. “I’ll come with you to check it out.”
Carson met her gaze, his face steady. He didn’t look particularly thrilled-he just nodded.
A pang of doubt hit Layla. Is it possible that Carson doesn’t want me tagging along? She couldn’t have known the real reason, though-she couldn’t see what was standing right behind him.
But the Vanguard camera caught it all, and the live chat absolutely exploded.
[His tail’s wagging like crazy! He’s so happy she’s going with him!]
[They haven’t officially confessed yet, but Carson’s definitely the quiet devoted type.]
[He never complained or showed weakness even when stuck with Stella through all those dangers.]
[Layla’s the kind who appreciates quiet kindness, nothing like Stella’s fake dramatic act.]
Layla changed into casual outdoor wear and walked off beside Carson
Watching their retreating figures, George folded his arms with a gloomy look, holding his tongue nonetheless.
Liam noticed his silence, walking over with a grin. “Not upset anymore? You used to fly off the handle whenever anyone got close to Layla.”
George huffed and turned his head away. “Carson’s different.”
Mature and steady as a respected elder of their little group, Carson wasn’t someone George could openly compete with over Layla’s attention.
