Chapter 297 Scout

I think Carson has feelings for Layla, too. He acts completely different around her than with Stella.)

[Totally agree. Mr. Fields is all business with Stella, but with Layla? Different story.]

A faint, knowing smile touched Layla’s lips as she read the live chat comments before lowering her gaze.

“Something good?” Shane asked, noticing her expression from where he sat.

Shaking her head, Layla stood and stretched. “You barely touched your food earlier. Want me to make you some pasta?”

Shane had eaten enough, but the offer of a private meal just for him made him smile.

He gave a nod, moving to stand beside her.

His face was neutral, but his eyes held a newfound tenderness.

As she set a pot of water to boil, Layla spoke quietly, her voice laced with concern, “I wonder how Carson and Liam are doing.”

Shane caught the worry in her tone.

“They’ll be fine. Carson’s there, and Liam’s no slouch. They can handle it,” he said, his voice cool but reassuring.

Meanwhile, George, Carson, and Liam had reached the location described by the queen.

Unlike the previous subterranean hive, this one was built into a mountainside.

Before they even entered, several scattered skeletons-remains of Planet A13’s native fauna-lay just outside the cave mouth, likely discarded by the Thunder Pterosaur after its meals.

George crouched by one of the larger skeletons, examining the clean, sharp marks on the bones.

They leave the remains of powerful predators out here as a warning, he remarked, looking back at Liam.

A grim smile tugged at Liam’s mouth. “Smart.”

Thunder Pterosaurs were a rarity, far more intelligent than their winged cousins.

Liam had only encountered one before, and that single creature had been enough to give him a serious challenge.

They could strategize, coordinate, and think.

“Stay sharp inside. These things don’t just attack; they plan,” Liam warned Carson in a low voice.

Carson nodded.

Chapter 297 Scout

Moving with deliberate silence, the two men crept into the narrowing tunnel, George keeping watch at the

entrance.

The cave widened gradually, the air growing thick with a cloying, metallic stench of decay.

At the final bend before the main chamber,

Carson halted. “Wait here. I’ll scout ahead,” he whispered to Liam.

Liam’s eyes showed his concern, but he nodded, knowing stealth was paramount.

Along the way, piles of bleached bones created a macabre landscape.

Beneath it all thrummed a powerful, familiar energy signature, reminiscent of Starcore Essence.

If a deposit of that magnitude was hidden here, it explained Layla’s extreme caution; Planet A13 would become a target for every major faction in the sector.

Carson held his breath and slipped into the cavern.

The space was immense, easily three times the size of the underground hive.

The moment Carson stepped inside, the sight before him left him utterly stunned.

Protruding from the walls and scattered across the floor were veins of a shimmering, gold-hued ore that gave off a special odor.

This must be the Starcore Ore deposit Layla mentioned.

So what Layla needs is truly here.

Carson let out a long, quiet sigh of relief.

Suddenly, he sensed a crushing pressure and immediately crouched down, hiding behind a large rock. Heavy footsteps echoed through the cavern.

It was a Thunder Pterosaur.

Its hide resembled plate armor, and its blood-red eyes gleamed with a fierce intelligence even in the dim light.

It scanned the chamber, its nostrils flaring as it sniffed the air

Dragons had keen senses, but Carson had meticulously scrubbed his scent.

As long as he kept his distance and remained still, he should remain undetected.

The Thunder Pterosaur seemed to find nothing amiss. It settled atop a mound of the golden ore and closed

its eyes.
