Chapter 305 The Sting of Disdain
The viewers erupted with hysterical laughter.
[OMG, did you catch Stella’s face just now? Did she seriously think Mr. Fields was gonna help her?]
[Get real! Mr. Fields finally gets a break from her nonsense. Why would he jump back into that mess? Talk- about a glutton for punishment!]
[Exactly! Back in the day, Stella and her whole crew acted like they’d lost the use of their hands. Mr. Fields did everything.]
[Honestly, what if this is Mr. Fields’ revenge? He seems quiet, but maybe he’s got a core of pure chaos.]
Carson’s assignment was simple: keep an eye on Stella.
Given her well-documented capacity for trouble, no one trusted her alone in the cabin.
With the hunting quota met, Layla saw a perfect opportunity to give Carson a lighter duty-supervising their unwelcome guest.
By day’s end, Stella’s hands were raw and red.
Back at the Grant Manor, even a piece of fruit arrived peeled.
Her nutrient solution was served at the perfect temperature.
This crude labor was a fresh kind of agony.
Tears welled in her eyes.
When the washing was finally done, Layla cast a single, dismissive glance at the pile. “You mixed all the colors. Trying to leave us with nothing to wear?” Her tone was flat. “Do it again.”
A shriek tore from Stella’s throat. She flung the wet clothes aside and fled, sobbing.
Layla watched her go with a derisive snort.
So much for patience. Did she really think she could worm her way in here?
Catching Carson’s eye, Layla gave a subtle wink. “She actually worked all day? No tricks?”
Carson nodded, his eyes reflecting genuine surprise. “Stuck to it. Checked the clothes myself-nothing added.”
It was puzzling. No one bought a sudden change of heart.
“You think she’s actually reformed?” George voiced the collective doubt.
Unanimous head shakes answered him.
The conclusion was obvious: a bigger scheme was brewing.

This had Ciara’s fingerprints all over it.
Let’s see what my dear mother is plotting now.
“Tomorrow, if she shows up, treat her like air,” Layla instructed.
She knew Stella’s pride.
Being utterly ignored would be an unbearable torment.
Push her to her limit, and she’d crack, revealing her hand.
A faint, calculating smile touched Layla’s lips.
At dawn, Stella returned, wearing the same pleading smile. “Layla, what can I do today?”
Layla walked past without a glance.
The smile froze on Stella’s face.
Undeterred, she turned to Carson. “I can help you.”
Carson gathered dishes, his gaze deliberately elsewhere.
Even chatty George merely rolled his eyes and walked out.
Shane drew the short straw for surveillance duty.
Huddled in a corner, Layla sketched plans for a covert trip to the Starcore Ore mine during the next thunderstorm. Doing it under Stella’s nose was exhausting.
A familiar voice broke her concentration. “Layla, I’m back.”
Her head snapped up. Yates stood there, a grin spreading across his face. Joy surged through her.
She stepped forward and wrapped him in a tight hug,
