Chapter 317 Save Emily

Emily’s eyes glistened with emotion. After a moment, she gave a small, grateful nod. “Thank you.”

Layla simply smiled in return, her attention shifting back to the hyenas.

Their nervous energy was palpable. They sensed a different level of threat from this newcomer, a power absent in their previous prey.

A low, rumbling growl echoed from the darkness.

Carson, now in his full wolf form, emerged.

He towered over the pack, his massive frame and bared fangs radiating pure menace.

The hyenas, despite their numbers, hesitated.

A final, sharp bark from their leader signaled retreat.

Only when the last shadow vanished did Layla allow herself a quiet sigh of relief. A direct fight against that many would have been a bloody, uncertain gamble.

Carson remained on guard, a silent sentinel, while Layla helped the weakened Emily and her companions to their feet.

She led them to their tents and tucked them into their sleeping bags. Just then, others from nearby camps, alerted by the noise, arrived to help.

Assured no one was seriously injured, the small crowd dispersed with murmured reassurances.

With others present, Layla felt secure enough to slip away and examine the perimeter of Emily’s campsite.

The hyena attack gnawed at her intuition.

It felt too targeted, too focused on Emily.

Predators like that didn’t risk human encounters without powerful motivation-territory or offspring.

Something was off.

Her search was methodical, eyes scanning the ground.

Behind the main tent, a patch of disturbed earth caught her attention. The soil was freshly turned, the top layer loose and dark.

Kneeling, she began to dig.

Her fingers soon brushed against something damp and unnervingly soft. She pulled it free.

A perfect, small pelt of a hyena cub.

Layla’s breath hitched.

Chapter 317 Save Emily

So that’s it. This explains the pack’s vengeful fury.

Carefully, she reburied the grim token, brushing the dirt back into place as if she’d never been there.

Her expression schooled into calm neutrality as she returned to Emily’s side.

Right on cue, Stella arrived, her face a mask of manufactured concern. “Goodness, what happened here?” she exclaimed, eyes wide as she took in Emily’s disheveled state.

Both Layla and Emily turned to look at her.

Stella held their gaze, the picture of innocent worry.

Emily’s lips tightened, anger flashing, but Layla rested a gentle, restraining hand on her shoulder.

Rising to her feet, Layla faced Stella with a deceptively sweet smile. “Your shelter is quite a distance away, isn’t it? You got here remarkably fast. That’s… impressive dedication.”

A flicker of unease crossed Stella’s features before she plastered on another smile. “Emily and I were best friends. Of course, I’d rush over if she’s in trouble.”

A shared, cold laugh escaped Layla and Emily.

Stella’s act was transparent, a poorly staged play they’d seen too many times.

But for now, the charade wasn’t worth confronting.

Instead, Emily turned her sharp gaze on Fiona, the producer who had just arrived. “How many ‘incidents’ does this make? What happened to your guarantees of a safe competition?”

Fiona ran a hand through her hair, looking genuinely exasperated. “Our guarantee was against pterodactyl- level threats disrupting the show’s core premise. Hyenas are native to Planet A13. We can’t sterilize an entire ecosystem for a TV program. The Interstellar Council would have our heads for that kind of environmental vandalism.”

Her point was valid; danger was an inherent part of survival shows

As Emily prepared another retort, Layla cut in smoothly, her eyes never leaving Stella’s carefully neutral face, “The more pressing issue is why they’re all so weak. Someone should figure out what happened to

them.”

The hint was unmistakable. Stella didn’t even blink.

Layla felt a chill settling in her gut.

Her acting has definitely improved.

Fiona seemed to snap to attention. “Right! Medical team, now! Full check-up for these three.”
