Chapter 318 Found Nothing

So either Stella had become a master smuggler, or she had inside help.

Stepping directly into the line of the hovering Vanguards, Layla addressed the unseen audience, her voice clear and firm.

“To the viewers, this is clearly a case of deliberate poisoning. Today, Emily and her team only consumed food prepared by me. Therefore, I demand a public inspection-right here, right now-of all my remaining ingredients and cookware. Let’s See if anything traces back to me.”

Stella’s composure cracked for a second.

She stepped forward, reaching for Layla’s hand with a performative gasp. “Layla, why so defensive? Trying a little too hard to clear your name?”

Layla jerked her hand away, a cold smile touching her lips. “I’m being proactive. Wouldn’t want to be set up again.”

The unspoken accusation hung heavily in the air.

Stella’s smile wavered.

Her eyes grew teary, her lower lip trembling. “What are you implying? That I would poison my own best friend?” Her voice quivered with faux hurt.

“I didn’t name anyone. You seem awfully eager to deflect, though. Sound familiar?” Layla replied evenly.

Stella’s eyes flashed with a venom she quickly masked.

Stamping her foot in a show of wounded pride, she said, “If you suspect me so much, go ahead! Search my things! Tear my shelter apart!”

Layla watched her dramatics, certain any evidence was long gone.

Fiona hurried to intervene. “Everyone’s stored luggage and confiscated items are tagged and secured in our base camp. The fairest approach is to inspect those.”

At those words, the color drained from Stella’s face.

A panicked glance shot toward Michael, the assistant director.

Layla picked up on her glance instantly, her brow lifting. Someone else was clearly in cahoots with Stella.

That made sense. With her career and reputation, Fiona wouldn’t dare defy Emily openly, even if she’d targeted Layla under the Grant family’s pressure. She might bend the rules, but crossing Emily was too risky.

“Excellent idea. And let’s have a Vanguard follow the whole process. Transparency for our audience,” Layla announced loudly.

Stella nearly broke character then, her fingers clutching desperately at Leonard’s arm beside her.

He gave her hand a reassuring squeeze, his silent promise calming her visible panic.

Squaring her shoulders, she followed the group toward the production compound, each step stiff.

The storage tent was orderly, every bag and box labeled.

Layla went first, handing her team’s luggage over for a thorough, camera-recorded search.

As expected, nothing amiss was found.

Then it was Stella’s turn.

Her anxiety was a live wire-shifting weight, avoiding eye contact, a nervous tremor in her hands.

The live chat exploded.

[Stella’s guilty as sin, look at her!]

[But why? I thought they were friends?]

[Ever heard of a frenemy? Pure jealousy, bet.]

The live chat was buzzing with all kinds of comments.

Stella grew visibly more tense.

But after every last one of her belongings was turned out, no trace of the drug was found.

Stella immediately covered her face and began sobbing. “I told you I didn’t have it… None of you believed

me.”

Yet in that brief moment when her hands hid her face, Layla caught the faint curl of a smile at the corner of

her mouth.

So someone had already helped her get rid of it.

Layla tilted her head slightly toward Michael, who was also smiling.

Feeling her gaze, Michael quickly wiped the expression off his face.

Layla let out a cold chuckle.

I wonder if Ms. Myers knows about this.

Under Layla’s scrutiny, Michael’s composure faltered only for an instant before he calmly took charge of the
