Chapter 334 Maybe He Doesn’t Have a Choice
[I used to think George was some untouchable intergalactic idol, but now Layla’s out here wrangling him and Oliver like a preschool teacher. She never gets a break.]
[Seriously. I’m scared one of these days she’ll look away for two seconds, and they’ll just go at it.]
[Okay, but if George and Prince Oliver actually fought, who’d win?]
[Honestly, I think it comes down to whoever Layla backs. That’s the one who wins.]
[Yeah, getting a mate’s favor is the real victory.]
The venison was finally done braising. Layla lifted it out of the clay, pot, let it cool for a bit, and carefully sliced it into thick pieces.
She boiled the braising liquid down into a thicker sauce and drizzled it over the plated meat. Then she turned and called out, “Dinner’s ready, everyone.”
Carson and Liam, who had looked seriously injured not long ago, were somehow the first ones at the table.
George and Oliver got back from gathering firewood right on cue. They took one look at the spread and swallowed hard.
Layla held up a hand, stopping them. “No more fighting. Otherwise, you’re cooking your own meals from now on.”
George and Oliver exchanged a look.
Oliver gritted his teeth and said, “You heard her. Keep fighting with me, and you’re on your own for dinner.”
George’s eyes went wide. “Are your ears broken? You’re the one who starts it every single time.”
They were about to go at it again when Layla let out a quiet cough. She narrowed her eyes at them, a clear warning in her gaze. Apparently, making those two work together on the Thunder Pterosaur hadn’t taught them a damn thing.
ľ
They caught her look and shut their mouths immediately.
Both of them gazed up at her like a couple of kids caught red-handed, clutching their empty plates.
Layla smiled, “Alright. Let’s eat.”
Everyone devoured that meal. With the Starcore Ore mine discovery, morale was through the rool
Shane practically inhaled his food and actually asked for a second helping, which he almost never did.
They’d figured a quiet meal with barely any conversation wouldn’t pull in viewers, but the ratings shot through the roof.
The viewers were dying of hunger.
[Why am I watching this at work? I’m starving, and my boss won’t stop droning on. Can’t even sneak a snack.]
