Leonard frowned and stared at Julian, his voice dropping low. “If we don’t, we don’t get paid. What about your mom’s medical bills? ‘s just keeping her company. She’s the Gran family heiress. She’ll have more mates later. It won’t just be us. We won’t have to deal with her forever.”

Julian held Leonard’s gaze for a long moment, then looked down. “Yeah,” he said quietly.

Leonard studied his oldest friend, then reached out and squeezed his shoulder. “I know you hate this. But we need the money, and the Grant family pays.”

Julian’s smile was forced. He stood up and nodded. “Yeah, I know. I’m gonna go hunt. Otherwise Stella’s gonna throw another fit later.”

Meanwhile, Stella was sprawled on the couch, snacking on jerky she’d made earlier and wearing a face mask.

Layla smiled, “For a Wormhole Queen, the nest she chooses matters more than anything.”

She just needed to let the queen know they’d taken the old nest back. That was all.

The others traded looks but didn’t push it. They just told her to be careful.
