Chapter 34 Make a Deal With Layla

Liam was actually helping. Layla figured it was bad form to attack someone who was making himself useful.

Besides, he seemed dead set on staying. Kicking him out now would be pointless, so she might as well make the best of it.

She took a step back and gestured for him to go ahead. “Show me what you’ve got.”

She wanted to see if Liam was really as capable as his fans claimed.

Turns out, he actually knew what he was doing.

Shane’s eyes narrowed for a second, and he ground his fangs.

[He wants to kill him!]

[I would too!]

[If Shane could get away with it, he’d totally do it!]

George sat at the table, munching on jerky and watching the whole scene. Honestly, the jerky was pretty good.

George’s little noise reminded Shane he was there. “Layla,” Shane said, “I noticed you liked the fish. I traded some of my jerky to George for his raw fish. How do you want it cooked?”

Shane put extra emphasis on the word “traded.”

Layla took the bait. “Without other seasonings, we’ll have to grill it. I’ll look for some ramps or something later to add more variety.”

“Good.” Shane nodded. Then he looked at George, who was holding the piece of jerky, unsure whether to eat it or not. “The trade’s done. Why are you still here?”

Everyone knew Shane. He was a genius mech designer, but beyond that, he was pretty clueless about social stuff. When he said something that blunt, no one would think he meant any offense.

But right now, George felt genuinely offended.

And Shane just looked at him with that sincere expression. “Shouldn’t you get back to Stella? Don’t keep her waiting. Weren’t you the one who said a male should try to please his mate?”

[LOL. Serves you right, George!]

[Why does this feel so good? I’m a Winge! Why do I enjoy seeing him get owned?]

[Saaame. I’ve always been annoyed by his arrogant attitude, but I could never stay mad at him. Finally, someone’s putting him in his place!]

[Go get him, Prof. Slater! Don’t hold back!]

[Wait, where else is George supposed to go?]

[Hold on! What do you mean? You want George to stay with Layla?]

[But Layla’s cooking is amazing. George has lost weight since being with Stella, and his face has grown thinner. Even if it’s not romance, at least he’d eat well with Layla.]

[Honestly, I don’t think Layla’s that bad. You all keep saying she’s chasing after Stella’s fiancés, but she’s kept her distance from all of them. Even with Prof. Slater in the same camp, she hasn’t stepped out of line.]

[Not at all. She’s even tried to get rid of him! Ever since their first meeting, I had a feeling the rumors were wrong. Stella’s fans are just too loud.]

George hadn’t expected Shane to be so direct. He froze for a second.

“I came to make a deal with Layla,” George said, his mind racing as he found an excuse. “It’s tough to survive alone on Planet A13. We should team up.”

Another partnership proposal?

Layla glanced at Shane. He’d first made a partnership deal with her too, and then never left.

She really didn’t like George. The last thing she wanted was that merman showing his face around here again.

“You went to the sea last time to get water, right?” George’s tone wasn’t asking; it was stating a fact. “I can get you seawater. As much as you want. My condition is that I get to stay.”

“Stay?” Layla was surprised. “Shouldn’t you be with Stella?”

George could boldly tell Liam he wanted to find Layla, but facing Layla herself, he couldn’t bring himself to say something that sounded like giving in.

“I’ll go wherever I want. So, do you want to partner up or not?”

[There he goes, acting all tsundere.]

[A tsundere like that will never get a mate.]

[Says who! I… I wouldn’t mind!]
