Stella frowned, her gaze turning sharp as it swept over Layla and then toward the storage room.

Her voice was ice-cold. “Who’s to say you haven’t already hidden it? For all we know, you’re in cahoots with those interstellar pirates-distracting everyone so you could steal from me right under our noses.”

Layla smirked.

Talk about turning the tables. She’s trying to pin this on me.

Ciara said coldly, “If you claim you didn’t take anything, then I’ll just have to check for myself whether you’re lying.”

She stepped forward, intending to search Layla by force.

Layla remained outwardly calm, standing her ground while her mind raced, already calculating escape routes.

Just as the tension was about to snap, a tall, broad-shouldered figure suddenly burst into the room, positioning himself squarely between Layla and the others.

Carson fixed Stella and Ciara with a frigid stare, his tone heavy with warning. “Stella. Ms. Ciara Grant. What’s going on here?”

His voice was deep and commanding, his solid frame like a protective wall shielding Layla.

He continued, his gaze unwavering, “Layla was doing you a favor by watching your place. Instead of thanking her, you’re trying to force a search on her? Forced bodily search violates interstellar law-and there are plenty of witnesses watching.”

At the sight of Carson and the Vanguard behind him, Ciara’s face immediately darkened.

Carson was clearly protecting Layla.

Antagonizing him outright wouldn’t do the Grant family any favors.

Stella was taken aback, clearly not expecting Carson to show up.

She bit her lip, the earlier bravado fading from her voice, though resentment still simmered beneath. “This is between Layla and me. It’s none of your business-stay out of it!”

Carson stated coldly, a hint of lethal intent coloring his words, “Layla is my acknowledged

mate.

“Her business is my business. Today, while I’m here, no one lays a finger on her. If you try anything else, don’t expect me to hold back.”

A powerful, oppressive aura radiated from him, the faint shimmer of bestial energy visible at his back. He was deadly serious.

Ciara drew a slow, controlled breath, forcing herself to remain calm.

Her eyes, gloomy with malice, flickered toward Layla before settling on Carson. “Fine, Mr. Fields, I’ll give you this one. Take her and go.”

With that, she pointedly looked away.

Stella shot Layla one last glare of pure frustration but didn’t dare say another word.

Just as Layla and Carson turned to leave, Ciara glanced back one final time. Her eyes held a flash of deep suspicion and cold calculation.

She’s definitely up to something. Could it be connected to… that?

Once they were somewhere private, Carson turned to Layla, concern etched on his face. “Are you all right? Did you find the berserker rage serum?”

Layla let out a relieved sigh, placing a hand over her chest as a smile touched her lips. “I’m fine. You showed up just in time-another moment and they would’ve caught me.”

Reaching into her pocket, she pulled out several vials of the genuine serum she had swapped out and handed them to Carson. “Look. I got the real stuff and replaced them with fakes. It’ll buy us some time before they notice.”

Carson carefully took the vials and stored them securely, his own shoulders relaxing slightly. “Good. With this evidence, we have a real case.”

He lowered his voice. “But Ciara was watching you closely just now. She suspects something. You’ll need to be extra careful from here on.”

Layla nodded, a faint, determined smile on her face. “Let her suspect. Once Leonard and the others inject those counterfeits, it won’t be long before their whole operation unravels.”

All their secrets would be laid bare for everyone to see.

“How did you know to come, anyway?” Layla asked, curiosity coloring her tone.

Carson’s gaze softened. “I noticed they rushed out but then didn’t follow through. Something felt off, so I kept an eye out.”

A flicker of warmth touched Layla’s eyes. “Thank you.”

Carson’s voice dropped to a quiet, magnetic murmur. “Don’t ever thank me for that.”
