Chapter 360 Keep a Close Watch

Stella looked at her mother, confusion plain on her face.

“You will go to her. Apologize. Pretend to be weak, beg her not to expose you. That gets you close, lets you watch her, and lulls her into dropping her guard. Ciara instructed, her voice low and precise.

A spark of understanding lit up Stella’s eyes, and she nodded eagerly. “That’s brilliant. Don’t worry. I’ll keep a close watch on her I won’t let her ruin our plans.”

Ciara gave a satisfied nod, patting Stella’s shoulder ‘Good. This task is yours. If Layla catches you spying, or if she finds evidence about the berserker rage serum… we’re all finished.”

So Emily was wrong. Stella knew every dirty secret this family held.

“I know, Mom.” Stella nodded firmly, a shadow of malice passing through her gaze.

That very evening. Stella made her move.

With Roger and his crew having escaped earlier with Leonard’s help, security on the grounds was unusually tight.

To make her act convincing. Stella brought along an ornate box of fine pastries Ciara had specially brought for her.

She crept up to the door of Layla’s cabin and knocked softly.

Inside, Layla was deep in discussion with Carson, Shane, and the others, planning their next

steps.

At the sound of the knock. Layla’s brow furrowed in puzzlement.

Who could that be at this hour? Emily?

Carson stood, his posture immediately alert. He moved to the door, peered through a crack, and his expression darkened. “It’s Stella.”

A knowing, sly smile curved Layla’s lips.

What else could Stella want but to snoop?

She felt no panic, only cool assessment. “Let her in. I’d like to see what new game she’s playing,” Layla said with a nod to Carson.

Carson opened the door.

Stella stood on the threshold, a picture of pitiful remorse. Her eyes were teary, and she clutched the pastry box as if it were a peace offering.

“Layla…” Stella’s voice was soft and trembling, dripping with contrition. “I know I was wrong before. I shouldn’t have targeted you, shouldn’t have set up that hyena attack on Emily. I came to apologize. Please…. please don’t tell anyone. Please?”

She held out the box. ‘Mom sent these. I’ve learned my lesson. Can you forgive me, just this once?”

Watching her play this pathetic act turned Layla’s stomach.

But for Stella to humble herself like this… There has to be more to it.

Outwardly, Layla allowed her expression to soften into one of hesitant sympathy. “You’re truly sorry?”

Stella insisted, nodding vigorously, her eyes reddening as if on the verge of tears. “I am! I really am! Layla, I’ll never go against you again and never do anything bad. Please, don’t expose the hyena incident. If the viewers found out… I’d be ruined.”

Layla pretended to relent, accepting the box.

“Alright. But this is your last chance. If you pull another stunt, if you cause more trouble, I won’t just reveal that—I’ll air every dirty secret you have.”

Stella immediately began thanking her, her face lighting up with feigned relief and gratitude. But beneath it all, a sliver of cunning and spite remained hidden.

Mom is right. If I keep playing nice. I can watch her every move and find out what she knows.

They exchanged a few more polite words.

Stella, playing the role of the chastened younger sister, skillfully prodded for details about Layla’s plans and movements.

Layla played along, offering harmless tidbits of information, carefully feeding the deception.

As the night grew later, Oliver finally broke in, his tone edged with impatience. “Planning to stay the night? It’s getting late.”
