Chapter 377 Bait
Mia glared at Layla, her eyes blazing with hatred. “Taylor Walker will make you pay for this!” she spat, cradling her bruised arms.
Layla wore a derisive smile. “So your pirate boss is on her way? Perfect.”

She leveled her blade at Mia’s throat, her voice dropping to a cold, quiet pitch. “Settling this once and for all will keep the Starcore Ore’s secret buried forever.”
A shudder ran through Mia.
There was something unnerving about Layla’s calm, almost cheerful menace.
Weren’t we supposed to be the villains here?
Layla filed the name away.
Taylor Walker? That should be their boss.
She could only hope Oliver and Carson were making headway with reinforcements.
For now, she produced a length of durable cord and bound Mia’s hands and feet securely before dragging
her back.
There, Emily and the Wormhole Queen had subdued Leonard and Nick.
Only Roger remained unaccounted for.
Gazing at Leonard, Layla tilted his chin up with the tip of her knife. “Where’s your brother hiding?”
Leonard let out a scornful laugh, defiance burning in his eyes. “You’ll never find him. And when he comes for you, you’re dead.”
Layla merely rolled her eyes.
She pointed at each captive in turn, first Nick then Mia, before gesturing toward the cave mouth. “You, him, her, and Gavin out there… all caught. You’re seriously counting on a pirate rescue that’s hours away?”
Her tone dripped with such open mockery that it made their blood boil.
“Don’t
“Don’t you dare look down on us!” Mia snarled from her place on the ground.
Layla’s sharp gaze swung to her. “You seem pretty high-ranking. That makes you useful.” A slow, unsettling smile spread across her face.
Mia shrank back, suddenly wary. “W-What are you planning?”
“Isn’t it obvious?” Layla said, hauling her to her feet.
Emily followed, confusion etched on her face. “Layla, what’s the plan here?”
Pausing, Layla pointed at Mia, then at the overcast sky beyond the cave. “She’s going to be our bait.”

Chapter 37 Bait
Interstellar pirate crews are tight-knit. They vet members strictly, so every one was valued.
And someone like Mia, who was close with Taylor, either had great skills or was personally important to Taylor.
From their scuffle, Layla guessed it was the latter.
Perfect hostage material.
Hearing Layla intended to use her as bait, Mia erupted in fury. “Are you insane? Is that even a normal plan? Let me go, now!”
Layla halted and slowly turned around. Her striking eyes narrowed, fixing Mia with a chilling stare.
A bizarre, unsettling smile spread across her face, revealing a line of gleaming white teeth.
A cold shiver ran down Mia’s spine.
Noticing her reaction, Layla spoke with eerie calmness, “Why should I treat someone like you-who’s done nothing but evil-with normal methods?”
The pressure and terror emanating from Layla washed over Mia once more.
Trembling, she allowed her tone to shift toward pleading.
“Please… I haven’t done anything else, I swear.”
Layla merely shrugged, indifferent. “You joined the interstellar pirates. How innocent could you be? What, you think you’re the only one who didn’t step in shit?”
The crude analogy was undeniably fitting.
Emily bit her lip, barely suppressing a laugh.
Mia’s face cycled through revulsion, anger, and finally forced composure.
She glared at Layla and demanded, “What do you actually want?”
