Chapter 438 Everyone Nodded in Agreement

Gorge rubbed his eyes, irritation in his voice. “What’s going on? Why all the yelling in the middle of the night?”

Rarely, Liam’s expression was dead-serious. “Hostile contacts have landed on Planet A13.”

Layla’s gaze locked onto something in the distance, a sharp glint flashing in her eyes.

Following the timeline, the only ones who could show up unannounced on Planet A13 were operatives sent by Ciara.

She had not expected Ciara to be so reckless, launching an attack right after the scandal broke.

Layla’s tone stayed calm, edged with quiet mockery. “Stay sharp. They mean harm. These are almost certainly Ciara’s people.”

Liam nodded. “I’ll scout ahead. Everybody stay here, don’t go out carelessly.”

With that, Liam blurred into a streak and sprinted toward the distant woods.

Carson stepped in front of Layla, scanning their surroundings with cold, watchful eyes.

Oliver and George moved to stand beside Shane.

Energy rippled off Shane’s body.

Even though George was usually impulsive and playful, he looked dependable when push came to shove.

He moved next to Layla and squeezed her hand firmly. “Layla, I will keep you safe, no matter what,”

Layla gave him a soft, gentle smile. “I trust you.”

Still, she caught the flicker of fear deep in George’s eyes. Truth be told, she felt worried, too.

Before long, Liam returned.

His face was grim, and faint blood stained his clothes. “There are five hostiles. They’re extremely skilled. They spotted me even when I stayed hidden. They carry high-tech weaponry. I barely escaped after clashing with them. They’re heading this way right now.”

Layla’s features hardened at his report.

She bit her lower lip and turned toward Yates, speaking in a sharp, urgent undertone. “Go to Emily and the others right now. Don’t hesitate-run, as fast as you can.”

She lowered her voice further. “Bury your way underground. It’s the best way to avoid detection.”

Yates hesitated.

Before he could speak, Layla pressed on, “If you stay here, we’ll have to split our focus to protect you.”

Those words erased Yates’ hesitation. He shifted instantly into his beast form and began burrowing furiously

“Oliver, channel Starcore Essence energy alongside Shane to scramble their brainwaves and back Carson up.

“Liam, hit them from the shadows. Strike at their weak points whenever you get an opening.

“Shane, stay right beside me for defense and healing. George, use your water-affinity power to raise a barrier and shield our cabin.”

Everyone nodded in agreement at Layla’s words, without a moment’s hesitation.

Carson fetched a massive axe from Shane’s quarters.

Starcore Essence was embedded in its blade, glowing bright with thrumming energy.

Layla looked at it in surprise. Shane scratched the back of his neck sheepishly. “Ever since we recovered the Starcore Essence, I hated letting it go to waste, so I built something with it.”

Thankfully, Shane had prepared ahead of time. This fight would have been far rougher otherwise.

All defenses set, Layla waited quietly for the attackers to close in.

Soon, five black-cloaked interstellar assassins surrounded the yard.

They saw Layla and the rest fully prepared, yet their eyes remained cold. Without pause, they charged forward.

The lead assassin raised an energy laser rifle and pulled the trigger straight at Carson, who stood at the front.

Carson’s eyes sharpened. He twisted his body and dodged the laser blast.

The shot slammed into the ground with a deafening crash, burning a tiny black crater into the soil.
