Fluffy Mates Chase Their Boss on Survival Show
Chapter 443 You Took No Damage at All
Awarm surge of power washed all over Layla’s body the instant her hand made contact.
Arnold lunged forward to pull her back, yet he was too late.
He drew in a sharp, shocked breath.
Every other person turned their eyes toward him.
Farsked
Arnold noticed all the stages. He hesitated for a moment before he spoke. “The energy field/holds immense power. Ordinary people who touch it get hit by its energy backlash, and it can cost them their lives.”
Layla thought back to what had happened to Shane. He had nearly gotten himself killed while absorbing Starcore Essence last time. She pulled her hand away, still shaken by that memory.
Something felt strange to her, though.
She had felt no pain or discomfort from touching the energy field at all. Her mind had grown sharper
instead.
The nauseating side effects from breathing in miasma earlier had vanished completely.
Arnold studied Layla for a long stretch of time. Confusion showed plainly on his face. “People should show bad reactions almost right after making contact. Ms. Hale does not seem affected in the slightest.”
A spark of realization flickered across Layla’s eyes. “Could it be my body is somehow compatible with the energy field?”
Back in the apocalypse, zombie crystals had existed.
Some crystals were toxic for regular humans, yet certain individuals could safely handle them.
Everything depended on a person’s unique physical makeup.
Layla crouched down beside the glowing stone. A note of regret colored her voice. “So what are we supposed to do with this thing?”
If they hauled it back to the cabin, its energy might hurt Shane and the rest of the group.
Shane pushed his glasses up the bridge of his nose. His tone stayed steady and composed. “I’ve run studies
on Starcore Essence before. Its energy output is even higher. It might temporarily block the energy field’s emissions-but this will take time to pull off.”
While Shane worked to extract power from Starcore Essence, the rest needed to guard the energy field. They could not let Ciara’s forces locate it.
Layla fell quiet for a short second as she sorted out their plan.
Then she clapped her hands and gave out assignments. “Alright. Carson and Liam, you two stay here and guard the energy field. Keep your distance; do not get too close to it.
“Oliver and Arnold, you know how Starcore Essence and the energy field work. Assist Shane with his work.

“George, you are coming back with me. We have to get ready for Ciara’s arrival.”
He plan made solid sense. Nobody raised any objections. Everyone nodded and moved to carry out their tasks.
Arnold and Oliver escorted Shane over to the Starcore Essence ore deposit.
Layla and George headed back toward their cabin.
It was not long before Shane returned carrying Starcore Essence shards. He began extracting its stored
energy.
He worked non-stop for a full day and night. At last, he finished building an energy shield.
Shane handed the shield device over to Layla. “Set this over the energy field, then bring it back down to the basement. It will contain all energy leaks for at least five days.”
Layla nodded softly and clapped Shane gently on the shoulder.
She spotted the heavy exhaustion in his eyes and spoke in a soft tone. “Go get some rest. I will be right back
Shane had intended to follow Layla out, but George forced him down into a chair. “Come on, you look like you are about to pass out any second, Prof. Slater. Don’t pretend you still have the stamina of a young man.”
Shane’s face flushed. He shot George an annoyed glare.
George folded his arms across his chest and wore a smug look. “Besides, you don’t have my youthful good-looks.”
George’s silly joke went too far. Layla flicked him hard on the forehead.
She gave him a sharp warning glance, then picked up the energy-shield device and left for the cave to meet Carson and the others.
Arnold watched Layla’s retreating figure. Deep worry filled his gaze. “I hope nothing goes wrong this time.”
George made three quick hushing gestures to ward off bad luck beside Arnold. “Quit saying things that jinx us. Nothing bad is going to happen with Layla leading us.”
Arnold snapped out of his grim thoughts. He scratched the back of his head and dropped his gaze, embarrassed.
When Layla returned to the cave with the shield, Carson and Liam stood watch some distance away from the energy field. Their full attention stayed fixed on their guard duty.
Relief washed over them once they saw Layla arrive. They let out slow breaths.
Layla carefully lowered the energy shield over the energy field and locked its cover into place. She let out a long sigh of relief.
