Chapter 444 Had Expected This Possibility
ey had already alerted the Galactic Guard and filled Scarlett in on everything.
Scarlett promised to send extra firepower to secure the surrounding area. She also handed Layla’s group two mech suits plus four of the most advanced high-tech weapons she could get her hands on.
The gear included laser rifles, laser cannons, and one special bow.
This bow required no physical arrows at all. A simple draw-and-release fired full-power energy blasts.
It fit Layla perfectly.
Back in the apocalypse, supplies had been scarce, and crossbows and bows had been her most reliable
weapons.
She handled this energy bow far more comfortably than a blade.
Layla smiled toward Scarlett, “I really appreciate this.”
Scarlett waved off her thanks. “As assistant director, keeping all of you safe is part of my job. I’ve also set up monitoring hub around the camp. Just stay alert.”
Layla nodded and carried the new equipment back to their cabin.
Shane, Liam, and Carson were placing alarm devices around the building.
They smiled when they spotted Layla returning. “How did it go?”
“Everything’s under control,” Layla said. “If Ciara and her crew show up, they won’t get away easily.”
She passed out Scarlett’s supplies to everyone. Liam, with his rank as high admiral, received one mech suit.
Carson, their strongest fighter, got the second suit.
Next, she gave Shane the longest-range, highest-power energy cannon.
George and Oliver each took one of the laser rifles.
Armed with their new gear, every member felt much more confident.
“This time, Ciara will leave with tears instead of smiles,” George said.
Liam spoke up. “I think they will come at night. They won’t make a big public show of it.”
The Grant family already had terrible public standing. A/loud, flashy arrival would broadcast their actions to every viewer.
That would destroy the Grant Group for good.
Even if they seized the energy field and Starcore Essence, no one would buy products from such notorious criminals.

Chapter 444 Had Expected This Possibility
Time slipped by quickly. The third day was almost upon them.
yla tossed and turned in bed. Sleep would not come, and a sense of impending trouble hung over her.
She sat upright. Liam, who slept beside her, lowered his voice. “What’s wrong? Can’t you fall asleep?”
Layla’s constant shifting had kept him awake as well.
Guilt flickered across Layla’s eyes. “Did I wake you?”.
Liam shook his head gently. “I can’t sleep either. Do you think…”
He never finished his sentence. Both Layla and Liam fell silent at once.
They heard a starship landing not far from their cabin.
Layla scrambled out of bed and rang the bell beside her bed.
Bells on the nightstands in every other room chimed softly.
The sound was quiet, yet loud enough to rouse every person in the house.
They all knew Ciara had arrived.
She had come earlier than the captured assassins had said.
Still, the group had expected this possibility.
Ciara was no fool. She would try to catch them off-guard instead of sticking rigidly to the three-day timeline.
Everyone geared up in a hurry.
Layla gave the Broad War Saber to Yates and clapped him on the shoulder. “Get down into the basement. If anyone besides me comes for you, strike without hesitation.”
Yates shrank back in fear and nodded.
Layla softened, running a hand through his hair. “We’re heading out now.”
With that, Layla grabbed her energy bow and stepped outside alongside Carson and the rest.
