Chapter 445 Would Not Give up so Easily

Ciara burned with age and snapped sharply. “You refuse a peaceful offer and force us to fight. Since you are so unreasonable, do not expect me to hold back.”

She shot a quick signal toward the huge crowd of assassins behind her. The attackers charged straight at Layla’s group.

Carson roared first. He swung his axe and struck hard at the incoming assassins.

Liam blurred forward right beside him and opened fire on the advancing enemies.

The two fought side-by-side. They blocked most of the assassins’ assaults before Layla, and the rest even needed to join in.

Oliver channeled power from the Starcore Essence shard. The energy formed sharp blades that flew toward the assassins.

Arnold raised his weapon and fought alongside Oliver, taking down enemy fighters.

George steadied his breathing. He closed his eyes and lifted both hands. Chaotic water jets burst up from the ground all around the battlefield.

Ciara scrambled frantically to dodge the surging water.

The cloaked mystery figure stood apart. A layer of energy wrapped around his body, and none of George’s water blasts could touch him.

Layla stood beside George, lined up her shot at Ciara, and loosed an energy arrow.

The mystery figure moved with lightning speed and shielded Ciara at the very last second. Otherwise, Ciara would have died on the spot.

Ciara stared at the massive crater the blast had carved into the ground where she had just been standing.

Her voice shook with fury. “I’m your own mother. How dare you try to kill me!”

Layla let out a cold laugh. “You stopped being my mother the day you disowned me. Besides, you never raised me.”

Ciara fell speechless. Her eyes filled with even stronger disgust. “I see now I made the right choice never bringing you home. You little brat was truly raised in some low-class place.”

Layla prepared to launch another attack, yet the mystery figure vanishcel without warning.

George sensed danger all at once and shouted at Layla, “Layla, look out!”

Layla threw herself sideways.

The mystery figure had circled around behind her. He held a black longsword and drove it straight toward her back.

Layla fired an arrow backward without hesitation. The mystery figure dodged the shot.

The two traded blows, locked in a fiercè standoff. The mystery figure held slightly better combat skills, though.

Layla’s stamina wore down. Several fresh cuts opened across her body.

Carson saw Layla get hurt, and panic surged through him.

He bellowed, fought off the assassins swarming him with heavy axe strikes, and charged toward the mystery figure.

The mystery figure’s gaze sharpened. He shifted his body to evade Carson’s rush.

At the same time, he thrust his longsword toward Carson.

Carson pulled Layla behind his own body and took the full force of the attack.

The blade pierced through his upper arm, and blood flowed freely from the wound.

Carson!” Layla called out, raw worry in her eyes. “Shane, give me something to stop the bleeding!”

Her shout drew the mystery figure’s attention. He turned and lunged straight for Shane.

Shane watched the stranger rushing his way. He fired an energy cannon point-blank.

The mystery figure had assumed Shane possessed no fighting ability-that was why everyone kept >rotecting him. He had not expected Shane to wield such a powerful weapon.

He could not fully get out of the way. He held his cloak up to cover his face.

Some unknown material made up that cloak. It stayed completely intact even under the cannon blast.

Shane acted fast. He sprinkled a pouch of medicinal powder onto his cannon and fired a second shot at he mystery figure.

Numbness spread across the mystery figure’s body.

The exposed parts of his limbs lost all feeling; the paralytic compound had done its work.

The mystery figure roared. “Ciara, fall back now!”

Ciara looked on, unwilling to retreat. “We are just going to give up like this?”

The mystery figure shouted back, “Stay here and die if that is what you want.”

Ciara understood the mystery figure would not risk his life to save her.

She shot Layla’s group a bitter glare and yelled at her remaining assassins, “Retreat!”

Hearing her order, the assassins halted their attacks. They ran toward their starship.

None of them boarded it, though. They melted away into the surrounding darkness instead.
