Next, she turned to Oliver. “Use Starcore Essence energy to strengthen the barriers around the cabin. Boost their defenses as much as you can, and don’t leave them any openings.”
Layla knew Ciara’s group would definitely attack.
Only she and Carson knew where the Starcore Essence mine lay, and they also held the energy field.
There was no need to send people off to guard other locations.
Daylight spread across the land, and every member stood fully prepared for battle.
The beastkin with little combat power gathered inside the show’s camp, where the best-available safeguards waited.
Even if Layla’s group fell, the camp could hold out until the Galactic Guard arrived.
Ciara’s goals were clear. She wanted the energy field from Layla and intel on the Starcore Essence mine. She would have little reason to strike innocent bystanders.
Ciara had moved in total secrecy. Aside from Layla, no one had laid eyes on her.
Nobody would have known of her arrival if Liam had not warned them.
Hours passed from daylight into night. Nothing out of the ordinary happened.
Darkness swallowed Planet A13 once night fell. Cold wind howled, whipping loose stones across the ground with a low moaning sound.
It felt like a storm about to break.
Ciara led twenty heavily-armed assassins. They hid in the woods roughly one mile from the cabin.
Each assassin wore precision-built mech suits, masking their presence. They were like predators lying in wait for their moment to strike.
Ciara lowered her voice and gave orders to her second-in-command. “As soon as the signals get jammed, lead your men forward. The cabin will have an energy barrier. Aim for its weak points, strike fast, and don’t give Layla’s team time to react.”
The subordinate nodded firmly, gripping his laser rifle. His cold gaze locked onto the cabin ahead.
Far off, the mystery figure stood atop a jagged rock, signal jammer held in his hand.
His finger hovered over the switch, and he counted down with icy eyes. “Three, two, one.”
The instant his last word fell, he slammed the switch down.
Nearly at once, every signal across Planet A13 got cut off.
Comm units inside the cabin went dark. All their blinking indicator lights died completely.

Layla’s expression hardened. She spoke in a quiet voice. “They’re coming.”
Over at the production camp, Scarlett noticed the signal loss right away. She rushed to the control console and hammered at the keys, trying to restart communications.
The jamming was total. No amount of tinkering could re-establish contact with the outside world.
A jammer powerful enough for this was not available on the open market.
Scarlett’s stare turned sharp. She spun around and shouted orders. “Power up all mech suits. Man the camp gates. Do not let them break through.”
Layla got ready for the incoming fight.
Ciara watched the cabin. No movement showed from within.
She assumed Layla was forcing herself to stay calm, afraid of giving away her position.
A cold smirk tugged at her lips, and she waved for her men to charge.
The assassins burst out of the tree line like phantoms, rushing toward the cabin. Laser rifles glinted cold in their hands, and the air hummed with deadly tension.
Layla had anticipated this. At the first sounds outside, she hit the switch mounted on the wall.
A ten-foot-tall energy barrier shot up around the cabin. Pale-blue light wrapped the whole building. forming a solid protective shell.
Laser fire from the assassins hit its surface, only stirring faint ripples before fading away.
‘Useless!” Ciara snapped, burning with rage.
She raised her laser cannon and aimed at one corner of the barrier. “I told you to hit the weakest spot. Concentrate fire and break this shield.”
A deafening blast rang out. The laser cannon slammed into the barrier’s corner. The whole shield shook violently, and a clear crack split its surface.
