Once Darren passed out, Carson and Shane both let out long, shaky breaths.

They exchanged a quick glance.

Shane was about to crack a relieved smile when Carson’s body swayed. He could hold himself up no longer and slid slowly down the wall.

Shane’s eyes went wide with alarm. He rushed over to catch Carson and checked his injuries

The shoulder wound that had missed the bone before was pierced clean through a second time. This blow crushed the bone along with it.

“Don’t you dare die,” Shane said, panic in his voice. “I’ll treat you right now.”

He grabbed his first-aid kit and dressed Carson’s injury with careful, gentle movements, afraid of making the damage worse.

Their fight in the basement was over, yet Layla still battled the assassins upstairs.

Ciara had only brought twenty elite fighters with her, but another hundred hidden assassins waited out of sight.

When the energy barrier shattered completely, they swarmed forward like a horde of pests.

Liam’s mech suit was running low on power. His laser sword dimmed, and his movements grew slow. Fresh cuts began to show across his body.

He cared little for his own safety. He twisted toward Layla and shouted over the noise. “Layla, we can’t keep this up. They’ll wear us down.”

Layla’s gaze turned cold as she studied the incoming attackers. She suddenly remembered Wormhole Queen’s promise.

The time has come.

She blew a sharp whistle. The shrill sound cut sharply through the dark night.

Moments later, swarms of Carapax Beetles poured in from every direction. They rolled toward the assassins like a surging golden tide.

These beetles were ordinary creatures by nature, yet their bodies held infused Starcore Ore. Standard weapons barely hurt them.

Their jaws were hardened with the same metal. A single bite brought agonizing pain no ordinary person could stand.

Most of the assassins ended up covered from head to toe by the beetles.

Each bite tore chunks of flesh from their skin.

The beetles locked onto one spot and kept biting, never shifting targets.

Layla’s eyes sharpened. She dove sideways out of the projectile’s path.

It hit the ground and burst into thick purple smoke.

A cloying sweet scent hung in the air.

George reacted instantly. He swept both hands outward and summoned water energy. A thick mist wall blocked the spreading fumes. “Everyone hold your breath. This stuff is toxic.”

Right then, the deep roar of starship engines echoed in the distance.

Ciara lifted her head, hope flaring. She thought her reinforcements had finally arrived. Instead, ships belonging to the Galactic Guard dropped into view.

Relief flickered across Layla’s face.

Scarlett has succeeded. She must have gotten through to the nearest guard unit.

At the sight of the Galactic Guard, Ciara’s face turned ashen. Her legs buckled, and she nearly collapsed.

She knew she had lost everything. If word of this got out, the Grant family would be forever disgraced.
