Chapter 458 Focus on the Program
Emily let out a sigh. “As for the royal family’s weapons-development work, I stumbled across it once when I went to their palace to receive an official honor. I have zero hard evidence or solid clues to back it up.:
Scarlett frowned slightly, frustration heavy in her tone, “We have iron-clad facts right in front of us, and we still cannot bring them down. It is such a bitter pill to swallow.”
Layla listened to both women and fell quiet for a short moment.
She tapped her fingertips lightly against the table out of habit while thinking, producing soft clicking sounds.
Layla knew perfectly well their current strength stood no chance against the royal family.
The royal family held deep-rooted power. They controlled most of the galaxy’s resources and military forces, and even the Interstellar Tribunal bent to their influence.
If they pushed too hard right now, they would gain nothing. They would only draw deadly danger and put everyone close to them in harm’s way.
What they needed most at this moment was time and more power.
Shane had already been running research on Starcore Ore and Starcore Essence. Once she talked everything over with Scarlett, they could bring in enough lab gear for Shane’s work-without disrupting the reality show.
Someday, Shane would develop weapons more precise and far more powerful than the royal family’s. Then would be the right time to expose their crimes.
With that thought settled, Layla stood up and spoke slowly. “There is nothing more we can do against the royal family for now. Pushing too aggressively will only bring worse trouble. We leave things as they are for the time being.”
Both Emily and Scarlett stared at Layla in surprise.
This was not like her to back down so easily.
Still, Layla’s reasoning held true.
Layla’s voice stayed calm and steady. “The royal family shields them. No matter how upset we feel, it will not change a thing. Instead of burning through our energy here, we keep the show running.”
Vanguard’s live streams broadcast the romance variety show to huge audiences. Even if Ciara and the others plotted something else, they would not dare make bold moves any time soon.
Layla’s plan worked on two fronts. Under the cover of the show’s uninhabited-planet-development premise, they would keep exploring Planet A13.
At the same time, they would lull their enemies. The other side would assume they had dropped their investigation after everything that had happened and let their guard slip.
Scarlett turned Layla’s words over in her mind and slowly nodded in agreement. “You are right. This is not

the moment for you to pick a direct fight against them.
eping the show going lets us hide our real moves while we prepare behind the scenes. It really is our best option.”
A faint smile tugged at the corner of Layla’s mouth; she was glad Scarlett saw her point.
She added, “Besides, it is a romance show after all. We cannot keep having nothing but non-stop fights. The viewers deserve to see what they tuned in for.”
Recent chaotic events had boosted viewership, drawing in people who normally would never watch a dating program. At its core, though, this was still a romance variety series.
If they strayed too far from that core premise for too long, they would end up losing their audience.
Layla had never lost sight of her original goal. She intended to outlast everyone else on the show and secure full ownership rights to Planet A13.
She glanced outside and spotted Shane, Liam, George, Oliver, and Carson sitting together, huddled over some quiet conversation.
Thick bandages still wrapped around Carson’s shoulder, and his face remained somewhat pale. Even so, he held his back straight, carrying the commanding presence of an alpha wolf.
Liam wore a simple combat uniform, and his chest wound had gotten proper medical care.
George chattered non-stop to Shane, acting completely carefree.
Oliver sat off to one side, twisting a piece of Starcore Essence fragment between his fingers. Every so often, his eyes drifted over toward Layla.
Layla’s heartbeat quickened, and warm affection flickered across her expression.
Outside of Shane, she had never shared deep, meaningful conversations with the other four men. It was her personal strength and charisma that had pulled them to her side.
Each of them had been going through terrible hardships when they joined the show. Now was the perfect chance to slow down and focus on the program.
This shift might even help their bonds grow gradually stronger.
It would also give Layla space to sort out her own heart. She needed to figure out whether she truly held real romantic feelings for every one of these five men.
Scarlett caught the soft smile on Layla’s lips and understood her plan.
She lifted one eyebrow. “Alright. I will issue the orders right away. Everything goes back to normal operations, but we still ramp up security.”
Layla nodded with a gentle smile. “Thanks for all your hard work. I’m going to get ready and cook everyone a good midday meal. Everyone has been through so much fright lately, and they could use some proper
