Chapter 468 Will Not Escape Punishment
ly nodded and stepped inside to pull Rowan out of the tent.
Rowan had not yet processed what was happening. He saw Layla and Shane standing ready for danger, and nervousness washed over him. “What is going on here?”
Emily spoke up beside him to calm his nerves, “It might be that contagious virus. Stay out here for now so you do not get infected.”
Rowan let out a long sigh. Worry flickered across his eyes.
He had spent so much time around Jacob, and he had grown to care for him.
He had watched Jacob suffer only moments before, and fear had settled deep inside him.
Layla and Shane walked into the tent. Jacob was stretched out on the bed. His brows drew tight, his face burning bright red. It was plain that something was badly off.
Shane immediately pressed his palm against Jacob’s forehead. He swabbed a sample of mucus from Jacob’s nose, placed it inside a test tube, and then gave Jacob an injection.
Jacob’s red-hot flush faded quickly. His breathing grew far steadier.
Shane and Layla exchanged a quick look, and both of them relaxed.
Jacob’s fast recovery meant he most likely had not caught the same virus carried by the black bear.
Layla rubbed her temples. “Let’s head back outside.”
The second Layla and Shane stepped out, Rowan and Emily hurried over to them. “How is Jacob? Is he alright?”
Layla gave Emily’s shoulder a gentle pat and spoke in a soft voice, “You can relax for now. The fever shot helped him feel much better. This is probably not the contagious virus. Still, wear your masks while caring for him, just to stay safe.”
She handed an extra mask over to Rowan.
Emily and Rowan glanced at each other, then nodded slowly. “Can we go inside and see him now?”
Layla turned her eyes toward Shane.
‘Shane shook his head slightly. “It would be best to wait. We will know more once my test results come back”
Worry crept back over Emily after hearing his answer.
She pressed her lips together, her whole face filled with anxiety.
Layla sighed. She could not honestly promise that Jacob would pull through without trouble.
Back inside their wooden cabin, Liam looked over at her with curiosity. “How is Jacob doing?”

Layla thought over everything she had seen and told Liam the full story.
-Shane gone back to his room to run thorough tests?” Carson asked, his tone heavy with concern I hoe he was not infected with the virus. We would be facing a huge problem if that turned out to be true”
Layla nodded in agreement.
Everyone waited for Shane with anxious hearts.
At last, Shane pushed his door open once more. His face wore a very serious expression.
“We can confirm the source of this sickness is the same virus,” Shane said. “Thankfully, the human body’s natural defenses have kept the symptoms far milder than what we saw in the black bear.”
Every single person in the room let out a deep breath of relief.
Shane continued, “This virus is much harder to treat in animals, but it responds far better inside human bodies. I should finish the vaccine and antidote by tomorrow. Everyone should get some rest tonight.”
Layla studied Shane’s tired face and spoke softly with concern, “You look worn out. Maybe you ought to…
Shane shook his head gently. “I need to finish this first. If this virus spreads among our people. we will be dealing with a major disaster.”
Layla nodded. She accepted his decision.
Some late-night viewers online had learned about the incident. They raged and posted angry comments.
[What on earth is Ciara doing? Does she have to stir up trouble every single day?]
[Is she chasing some weird quota where she cannot survive unless she causes problems for everyone else’]
[Thank goodness Shane was here. This would have been a total mess otherwise. I cannot believe Ciara is still walking around free. It makes me so mad.]
Layla read through their angry messages, a small smile playing on her lips. “Do not worry, everyone If Ciara really is behind this, she will not escape punishment.”
