Chapter 476 Most Peaceful Days
er washing her hands, she sat down at the dinner table.
Shane stepped out from the back room at that exact moment. “Good work today, Layla”
He wore a shy smile.
Even though George and Oliver had brought her food out to the field, Layla had spent the whole day working hard. By the time she walked back, hunger had crept over her once again.
She took a deep breath. Rich cooking scents filled the cabin, mixing the fresh aroma of mushrooms and the heavy, savory smell of roasted meat. Her stomach rumbled, and she rested one hand against it.
Carson noticed her gesture and smiled softly. He set a plate of herb fritters down on the table.
Shane helped place plates and forks, while George and Oliver sat down, their eyes fixed eagerly on the food.
Layla looked at them, surprised. “You haven’t eaten yet?”
George nodded obediently. “Nope. Right after we finished cooking, Carson sent us out with your meal. He didn’t want you to wear yourself out.”
Warm affection showed in Layla’s eyes after hearing his words.
She took the main seat, and the rest of the group sat down around the table.
George immediately placed one herb fritter onto Layla’s plate. “Try this, Layla. I made it myself. It’s crispy and golden-fried, absolutely delicious.”
Not wanting to be outdone, Oliver picked up a tender chunk of slow-cooked venison and set it on her plate, his tone friendly and eager to please. “Have some of this instead. It tastes far better than those fritters.”
Carson smiled faintly and looked over at Layla.
His voice was gentle and warm. “I cooked everything to match your tastes. Tell me if you like it. If you do, we can take turns making meals from now on. You shouldn’t have to cook every single night.”
Cooking drained a lot of energy, and he hated seeing her exhaust herself over household work.
Layla smiled. She saw George’s hopeful expression and bit into one of the herb fritters.
Just as George had said, it was crispy and flavorful. The bright taste of wild greens blended with warm wheat for a unique flavor.
Next, she took a bite of venison. The meat was perfectly tender, so soft it practically melted on her tongue.
Layla gave Carson a thumbs-up. “Wow, Carson. This tastes even better than my own cooking.”
A small, pleased smile tugged at the corner of Carson’s mouth.
George and Oliver spoke up right away, unwilling to miss out on praise.

“We helped, too!”
Appath.
They both looked as though they had been deeply wronged. Layla decided to give them some credit as well.
She smiled, “Alright, good job. I didn’t think either of you knew how to help out with kitchen work.”
George puffed out his chest, thoroughly pleased with her words. Oliver, on the other hand, frowned slightly.
Something about her compliment felt off, even though she seemed to be praising them.
The warm, relaxed dinner scene streamed live for viewers, and comment after comment rolled across the
screen.
[This is exactly the kind of sweet moment I tune into this romance show for. Thank goodness Stella is gone -who knows what trouble she would have caused.]
[I was so wrapped up watching Layla work in the fields this afternoon I almost forgot to eat my own dinner. How can someone make hard labor look so fun? Layla really is one of a kind, chatting with viewers even while she’s busy.]
[There’s no doubt that Layla is what keeps this show’s ratings high.]
The dinner table felt warm and lively. George and Oliver teased each other every now and then, yet their bickering never grew loud. It simply added a cozy, lived-in feeling to the room.
Liam and Carson sat on either side of Layla. Silently, they kept filling her plate and pouring her drinks. looking after her every need.
Once dinner ended, Yates volunteered to gather up the dishes and wash them.
George realized he had not contributed much useful work all day. He offered to boil hot water and brew a sweet herb-blossom drink for Layla to help settle her stomach.
Layla watched everyone busy around the cabin, and a happy smile spread across her face.
This quiet, peaceful life was something she had longed for back in the apocalypse.
When she first arrived in the Beast World, she had hoped she could live a calm, trouble-free life.
