Chapter 58 Help!
“Good girl,” Caleb said.
[Ew-]
[What is Hanna even thinking!]
[Guys, doesn’t Hanna act so odd? Could she be under some kind of influence?]
[Same. She seems perfectly rational, and even felt a twinge of guilt toward Layla earlier. So why does she lose all sense whenever Caleb’s involved? He must have some kind of hold over her.]
[Seriously, this guy creeps me out. He’s totally incompetent and unskilled, yet acts so tough and arrogant. Hanna does all the hunting, and he still looks down on females. No decent male would be this shameless]
[Right, I bounce between streams. You know Prof. Slater? When he first started hunting, he once ran straight into a tree and knocked himself out. Ever since staying with Layla, he’s learned to do everything for himself. He’s not the most helpful, but he’s got common sense. Nothing like Caleb-useless yet overbearing.]
[I get you’re trying to compare them, but can we not keep bringing up his embarrassing past? He’s capable now, reliable both in and out of camp, officially approved by Layla herself!]
Layla had no concern for Hanna’s troubles, and there was little she could do regardless.
None could aid those unwilling to help themselves. All had to learn from their own missteps.
Layla’s next stop was Talia’s cabin, conveniently close to Hanna’s, only a short walk away.
Two males stayed with Talia.
First was Sebastian Pierce, a canine beastkin with an obscure bloodline. His father was an intelligent Border Collie beastkin, and his mother a Siberian Husky beastkin, making him sharp-witted yet highly energetic.
The other was Felix Collier, a simple, earnest bovine beastkin. Word had it that ever since being with Talia, he was constantly the one being “bullied.” Because of this, Talia received plenty of backlash from male viewers for straying from traditional feminine expectations.
When Layla arrived, Felix was sweeping outside. Talia and Sebastian were out: Sebastian hunting, and Talia foraging for mushrooms.
Felix regarded her with his usual plain, honest expression and asked, “What brings you here?”
If anyone else had asked that, Layla would have assumed they were being hostile.
But, according to the book, Felix was genuinely kind and uncomplicated.
Back when Talia was targeted online, he never left her side. He even outright rejected her attempt to end their relationship, as she feared their bond would ruin his family’s dairy business.
Still, his fate had been unfavorable in the original story, for he had sided against the heroine.
“I’m here to ask if you’d like to buy some salt,” Layla said, opening the bamboo tube. Fine white salt glinted

inside. “My salt is cheaper than the production team’s. Enough for one person for fifteen days, in exchange for just eighty pounds of meat.”
Felix leaned closer to inspect it. “Did you steal this from the production team?”
Layla immediately knew they had watched parts of her stream, but not all of it.
“We made it ourselves. Prof. Slater built equipment to extract it from seawater. Interested in buying from me? You’ll save plenty in return.”
Felix paused to think, speaking openly without reservation, “I’ll need to discuss this with Talia and Sebastian first.”
“Alright. You know where I stay, right? Just bring the meat over once you’ve made your decision.”
“Sure,” Felix nodded and straightened up. “I’ll walk you out.”
Layla stared.
You really can’t fault someone this straightforward. At least he gets things done.
“No need, thanks,” Layla replied.
She then headed toward Emily’s cabin, only to find it empty.
From Emily’s Vanguard live stream chat, Layla saw that Emily and her three mates had all gone hunting, planning to trade with the production team for salt.
