Beast Love Show: All For Her (by Sylvester Raven) novel Chapter 63

Chapter 63 A Snake in the Treehouse

Even being cold-blooded, Shane couldn’t bring himself to drive away a beastkin in danger. His gaze fell on the jerky Yates was holding. “Put it down.”

“Right! Thank you, Prof. Slater!” Yates’ eyes lit up. He set the plate of jerky down by Shane’s hand and bounced back to continue frying meat.

Layla had no idea what agreement the two had reached, but by dinner, Shane’s hostility toward Yates had clearly lessened.

Since Shane’s treehouse wasn’t finished yet, Layla didn’t resist letting him into her treehouse, following the pattern from the day before.

But as night fell, Layla had already washed up and was getting ready for bed, while Shane still sat at entrance of the stone cave without moving an inch.

the

“Aren’t you going to sleep?” Layla asked out of concern for her partner.

Shane looked up at her. “Are you asking him or me?”

Layla followed the direction of Shane’s finger and looked at Yates.

Yates was curled up on the other side of the cave entrance, the two of them like a pair of goalies.

Layla gave Shane a dubious look. “Both of you.”

It’s cold now. Didn’t Shane just say that yesterday?

“You’ll get sick sleeping outside.”

Shane hadn’t expected Layla to use his own words against him. He was annoyed but couldn’t answer.

He turned to look at Yates.

Catching Shane’s warning, Yates didn’t dare say a single unnecessary word. He shook his head quickly. “No, we won’t. We’re both sturdy males.”

[That’s what you call “hoist by your own petard.” Prof. Slater is giving a masterclass today.]

[Sturdy males. Hmm… which sturdy male had to be carried home by a female?]

[Yates ran into his natural predator. You haters are something else!]

Layla said, “Oh,” then turned to Shane. “What about you? Sturdy male?”

Shane’s eyes darted around. He stood up. “Not me. Snakes can’t handle the cold. I get lethargic when it’s chilly.”

Layla didn’t say anything more. She shifted into her beast form and flew up to the treehouse.

Shane shifted back into a King Cobra and slithered up the trunk.

In an instant, Yates was left alone at the cave entrance as the only sturdy male.

Yates was speechless.

So the message is, I’m the only one not allowed up there?

[Yates should count himself lucky he’s the fur-on, coat-in-one type.]

[Pfft, “fur-on, coat-in-one.” Does Yates know you described him like that?]

[I didn’t consult him first.]

[But seriously, Prof. Slater’s jealousy is off the charts. I can smell it through the screen.]

Fused

[Right? Prof. Slater and Layla are the real couple. Stella’s fans keep insisting Shane is one of her mates. Makes me want to throw up.]

[We’re so lucky. Otherwise, we’d never get to see Crownpeak University’s legendary fail-giving professor fall for someone.]

[I can tell how bitter you are from your words. How many times have you failed his class now?]

Shane slithered into the treehouse. He didn’t shift back into human form. His snake body coiled up in the spot he’d slept the night before, not even bothering to cover himself with the wolf hide.

Layla glanced at him but didn’t engage.

She was starting to think this guy had a real gift for taking an inch and asking for a mile.

“Ah-choo!”

Layla was shocked.

What the hell? Snakes can sneeze too?

[Any snake beastkin in the chat? Want to enlighten us?]

[I’ve never had a cold in twenty-seven years. When it gets cold, I hibernate. How would I catch a cold?]

[He’s faking! He’s faking! He’s faking!]

[Don’t believe him, Layla! Don’t believe him, Layla! Don’t believe him, Layla!]

Layla didn’t fall for it.

Not because she thought snakes couldn’t catch colds.

But because Shane was a grown snake. If he were cold, he could cover himself.

It wasn’t like he didn’t have hands.

Yet Shane always managed to surprise Layla.

She closed her eyes and was just about to fall asleep.

“Hack! Hack!”

A series of muffled coughs came.

By the moonlight, Layla could even see the coiled snake on the floor trembling with each cough

“Cover yourself!” Layla snapped..

Shane didn’t move.

Layla didn’t urge him again.

A little while later, she was just drifting off again.
