This realization triggered a massive explosion of all the emotions he had been bottling up.
His eyes turned bloodshot. All his usual suave composure vanished as he roared at her, "If I say I'm giving it to you, then take it! If you don't want it, then donate the damn lot to charity!"
Before she could reply, he spun on his heel and marched toward the door.
Just as his hand hit the doorknob, he paused, as if remembering something, and threw a parting shot over his shoulder without looking back. "Call my assistant to handle the paperwork whenever you get discharged."
Bang! The hospital door slammed shut with deafening force.
Sienna stared at the closed door, watching the memory of his cold, retreating back. The tension that had kept her shoulders rigid for days finally melted away.
She had barely caught her breath when the door was pushed open again.
Luna stepped in lightly, carrying two massive bags of takeout with a sly grin on her face.
The savory aroma from the bags instantly overpowered the sterile smell of the hospital room.
Seeing her, Sienna quickly lowered her voice. "Are you crazy, walking in here so openly? Jarred just left! If he catches you, you're dead."
Luna dropped the bags onto the bedside table, pulling out the food with a mischievous wag of her eyebrows.
"Relax. I camped out downstairs for a while. I watched his car drive away before coming up. Trust me, he didn't see a thing."
Luna cracked open a can of cola and shoved it into her hand. "You've been craving this for days, haven't you? Tell me you don't want it."
Sienna eyed the feast spread across the table and swallowed hard. "Isn't this a bit too flashy? Technically, I'm still a patient recovering from a major gynecological surgery."
Luna rolled her eyes in mock disgust. "Give it a rest. Don't go winning an Oscar just yet. If you don't say anything, and I don't say anything, who's gonna know?"
She peeled a shrimp, popped it into her mouth, and mumbled as she chewed.
"Besides, your attending doctor is my cousin, the anesthesiologist works for Jonathan, and the entire operating room is basically your fan club. What are you worried about?"
Sienna was left speechless. After a two-second pause, she finally burst into laughter.
She would escape this city of chaos and trauma, leaving Jarred and the Sterlings behind for good.
When that time came, no one would remember who Sienna Sloan was, let alone this shattered marriage.
She could start fresh and live a quiet, peaceful life.
Over the next few days, Jarred vanished off the face of the earth.
He didn't send a single text, didn't make a single call, and never once showed up at the hospital. It was as if he had truly let go and never planned on seeing her again.
Sienna stayed in the hospital for another week.
Her leg had healed enough that she could walk slowly without crutches.
When discharge day finally arrived, the very first thing she did after signing the paperwork was call Jarred.
It was time to end things once and for all.
