"I know you're caught in the middle. Forget it, I'll just consider it bad luck and take the blame..."
"It just breaks my heart to realize that Sienna has always hated me."
Jarred's gaze remained fixed on Sienna. After hearing those words, the gloom in his eyes deepened.
He spoke coldly, his single sentence setting the tone for the entire situation. "Did you hear that?"
In his mind, he had already concluded that she was being arrogant and unreasonable, intentionally knocking over the drinks and shoving the injured Celeste.
Sienna watched this poorly acted drama that had played out countless times before, the last trace of warmth in her heart swallowed by ice.
She looked straight at Jarred. "Are you blind, or has your heart just been biased from the very beginning?"
Jarred's expression instantly frosted over. "Sienna, watch your tone."
"Am I wrong?" Sienna raised her voice.
"You didn't see how she tried to extort money from me just now, or how she let her staff hurl insults at me. I didn't touch the car, and I didn't knock over the drinks. I was condemned for absolutely no reason.
"The moment you showed up, she immediately played the victim and squeezed out some tears. You didn't even bother to listen to my explanation before declaring me guilty."
She cast a mocking glance at Celeste, whose eyes were red and teary. "If you love watching her put on a show so much, why don't you build a shrine for her?
"She knows how to pretend, how to cry, and how to cater to your every whim. She's far more pleasing to look at than someone like me who doesn't know how to flatter or show weakness, isn't she?"
Tears welled up in Celeste's eyes. "Sienna, are you misunderstanding something? I really just see Jarred as a brother, and you as family. How could I possibly try to steal him from you? Why can't you just trust me for once?"
Her words only added fuel to the fire.
A clear surge of anger flared in Jarred's eyes. "Sienna, knocking over the drinks was bad enough, but your words are completely out of line. Apologize to Celeste immediately!"
Seeing someone back them up, the three young maids standing nearby suddenly found their courage.
"Exactly! Ms. Sloan, you need to apologize to Ms. Carlyle right now!"
"You spilled the wine and pushed her. You've gone too far!"
He felt both furious and hurt.
But his pride refused to let him show that vulnerability.
His voice dropped, turning hoarse. "Do you have to be so utterly unreasonable?"
"You're the one who is unreasonable!"
Sienna's eyes were red, but she stubbornly refused to back down even an inch. "Keep protecting your precious little sweetheart, and don't ever bother me again."
With that, she turned on her heel and walked away.
Jarred froze in place. He watched her resolute silhouette, his hands gripping the handles of his wheelchair so tightly they turned into fists.
Celeste remained seated in her wheelchair.
Listening to the faint sounds behind her and watching Sienna's lonely, retreating figure, a faint smile touched the corners of her lips.
