Seeing the look on Jarred's face, the old man's frown deepened.
"Jarred, I asked you a question! Don't tell me you don't even know who Owen's doctor is!"
Jarred remained completely silent.
His silence was all the answer they needed.
"This is absurd! You absolute disgrace!"
The old man slammed his hand fiercely against the armrest of his wheelchair. "You have to find out about your own brother-in-law's crisis from someone else! What kind of husband are you?"
Helena rushed to defend her son, her bias on full display. "Dad, you can't put all the blame on Jarred.
Sienna is the one who is overly secretive. She hides everything from us and deliberately keeps the Sterling family in the dark.
If she insists on pushing us away, what are we supposed to do?
Jarred has been more than generous to Owen. He's always paid the medical bills and has never shortchanged them. Why should he be the one getting yelled at?"
"Shut your mouth!" the old man commanded sharply.
"Never shortchanged them? If he hadn't neglected them, he would have known the boy was transferred to another country!
Your son made a grave mistake, and instead of holding him accountable, you sit here making excuses!"
The old man's sheer authority instantly silenced Helena. She lowered her head, looking resentful but thoroughly subdued.
Celeste glanced around the room and softly interjected. "Grandpa, please don't be so angry. Jarred didn't mean to ignore it.
At the end of the day, Sienna is just too proud. She insists on carrying everything herself and refuses to let anyone help.
If she had just told Jarred earlier, Owen would have been under Jarred's protection, and none of this would have happened today."
The old man's face remained stormy. He hadn't so much as glanced at Celeste this entire time.
When he spoke, his words were sharp enough to draw blood. "Remember your place. You may live and eat under the Sterling roof, but you have absolutely no right to interfere in this family's affairs."
When Sienna finally opened her eyes, an unfamiliar ceiling greeted her.
She froze for a split second before reality crashed down on her.
They were in Germany. This was Jarred's Villa in Germany.
Sienna immediately threw off the covers. The moment her feet touched the floor, the bedroom door swung open.
Jarred walked in carrying a glass of warm water. Seeing her awake, the harsh lines of tension on his face finally softened slightly.
He set the glass on the nightstand, his voice remarkably gentle. "Are you feeling sick anywhere? I can call the doctor back in."
Sienna ignored his question. She didn't even glance at the water.
She stared dead into Jarred's eyes, absolute panic etched into her features. "Where is Owen? Do you have any news?"
Jarred crouched down in front of her, meeting her gaze evenly, trying to keep his tone steady and grounding.
