A cluster of maids stood huddled near the entrance, their faces pale, whispering frantically amongst themselves with obvious panic in their eyes.
Sienna walked up slowly, keeping her expression perfectly indifferent. "What happened?"
A maid stepped forward, lowering her voice nervously. "Ms. Sloan, it's Ms. Carlyle. She was so overcome with grief that she fainted on the spot.
Mr... Mr. Sterling just called an ambulance and went with her to the hospital."
When she mentioned Jarred, the maid practically flinched, shooting an anxious, sidelong glance at Sienna to gauge her reaction.
The entire city was abuzz with the scandalous affair between Jarred and Celeste.
Everyone assumed Celeste was the true love of his life.
Meanwhile, Sienna—the woman he had actually married—was treated like an irrelevant outsider.
Even with a divorce looming, the staff was terrified Sienna would take her bitterness out on them.
But Sienna's face didn't register a single ripple of emotion. There was no jealousy, no fury.
She looked as serene as someone listening to gossip about a total stranger.
Celeste was a phenomenal actress who always knew exactly when to play the fragile victim to garner sympathy.
She fainted because she was too terrified to face Sienna, so she used the hospital as an escape route.
A cold scoff flickered in Sienna's eyes.
She couldn't care less about this orchestrated theatrical performance. With a cool, dismissive expression, she bypassed the whispering staff and headed straight upstairs.
Grandpa Sterling's room was at the very end of the hall, the door left slightly ajar.
When Sienna pushed it open, the room was so quiet that the only sound was the rhythmic, soft beeping of the heart monitor.
Dr. Clayton was the only one left sitting by the bed; the rest of the medical team had already departed.
He was looking over a medical chart, but his face softened into a warm smile when he saw her.
"Sienna, you're here."
Dr. Clayton set the chart down. "He's always cherished you the most. Please don't worry too much. We're going to do absolutely everything to care for him."
"I know."
