The atmosphere in the sprawling living room was eerily silent.
It was incredibly rare for this many people to gather at Sterling Manor, yet tonight, thanks to this farcical drama, both those who belonged and those who didn't were all crammed together.
Celeste instinctively eyed the briefcase in Mr. Palmer's hands, a flicker of profound unease crossing her eyes.
Everyone held their breath, their gazes glued to the lawyer.
Ignoring the turbulent undercurrents in the room, Dominic kept a solemn expression and spoke in a deep voice, shattering the dead silence.
"Ladies and gentlemen, though Mr. Arthur Sterling remains in a coma, he possessed great foresight.
Previously, while still lucid, Mr. Sterling was well aware of the hidden dangers of his chronic illness and deeply feared falling into a prolonged coma, unable to manage affairs.
Therefore, he engaged me in advance to draft and notarize a Sovereign Proxy."
The matriarch stepped forward, leaning heavily on her cane. "What kind of proxy?"
"Please remain calm, ma'am," Dominic said unhurriedly. "I must also clarify one point. When Mr. Sterling signed this document, the family physician, Dr. Clayton, and the eldest grandson, Maloney Sterling, were both present as witnesses.
Both witnesses can guarantee that Mr. Sterling was fully conscious and in complete health at the time.
It was signed entirely voluntarily, without any influence or coercion from anyone."
Helena narrowed her eyes, her gaze darting suspiciously between Maloney and the lawyer.
Maloney stood off to the side, his face completely void of excess emotion, looking as if this matter had absolutely nothing to do with him.
Under the highly speculative gazes of everyone present, Dominic slowly opened his briefcase, retrieved the document, and read it aloud to the room.
"I, Arthur Sterling, being of sound mind, fully competent, and possessing full civil capacity, do hereby, after careful deliberation, voluntarily establish this notarized Sovereign Proxy.
I hereby delegate all executive powers of the Sterling family patriarch exclusively to Ms. Sienna Sloan, to be exercised independently. No one may act in her stead, and no one may interfere.
This shall take immediate effect from the day I lose consciousness or the ability to independently manage affairs, and shall remain in effect until I fully recover my capacity to do so.
During this period, every decision made by Ms. Sienna Sloan shall be deemed as my own. All members of the Sterling family must comply unconditionally."
