Inside the office.
An officer dropped a file onto Jarred's desk. "Captain, things are getting complicated. Look at this. The whistleblower just submitted fresh evidence."
Jarred frowned, picking up the folder and flipping it open.
The officer continued, "Initially, due to lack of proof and your personal guarantee, she was supposed to walk the second her hold expired.
But now, they've roped her into an entirely separate case. Her detention time has been officially extended, so she's stuck there for the foreseeable future."
Staring at the documents in his hand, Jarred's gaze grew as dark and unreadable as an abyss.
Just then, the office door swung open.
Deputy Captain Henry Holden walked in. "Captain, Dr. Sloan is downstairs demanding to see you. Nobody can stop her. Should we let her up, or...?"
Quite a few people in the precinct were already well aware of Sienna and Jarred's relationship.
Unsurprisingly, nobody had the guts to forcibly throw out the Captain's wife.
Jarred raised an eyebrow, pausing his scan of the files. "She... came to see me?"
That was genuinely rare.
In the seven years they had known each other, outside of the very early days of their relationship when she'd occasionally wait for him to finish his shift, she had never once set foot in the precinct.
Since they got married, she refused to come within a mile of the building unless it was strictly business-related.
Henry nodded. "If you don't give the green light now, she's probably going to fight her way up here."
"..." Why did that sound like incoming disaster?
"Send her up."
"Right away."
Henry acknowledged the order and promptly ducked out.
The other officer caught the uneasy look in Henry's eyes, quickly following him out and shutting the door behind them.
Jarred slipped the file into his desk drawer. The moment he looked up, the office door was thrown open.
A fraction of a second prior, he had still been relishing the rare thrill of Sienna actively seeking him out.
But that thrill vanished instantly the moment he met her freezing, murderous gaze.
Her hands were balled into fists at her sides, shaking with visible rage.
Sienna slammed the door behind her with a deafening bang that made every passing officer flinch.
Jarred's lips curled up in a low chuckle. "Sweetheart, you look like you're here to catch me cheating."
