Begging for a Second Chance (Sienna Sloan and Jarred Sterling) novel Chapter 396

Jarred's tall frame loomed over her, completely blocking out the wind and sunlight.

Lowering his voice, he shed all his professional hardness, adopting a tenderness he reserved solely for her.

"Daisy is young and foolish. Don't take what she just said to heart."

He exhaled deeply. "I will look into the letter again. I'll give you a proper answer and get justice for Mrs. Bridges."

"Again?"

Sienna finally halted her steps.

Tilting her head to look at him, a curve slowly formed on her lips. "So you're saying you've already investigated it once?

And as a result, you ordered your men to keep it from me and prevent me from coming. You suspected me?"

Sienna looked at the man in front of her, studying his handsome, striking features.

Watching the anxiety in his eyes and his seemingly genuine attempts to pacify her, the mockery on her lips deepened.

A sudden chill crept down Jarred's spine, his heart painfully seizing.

He knew perfectly well that the moment she wore this expression, she had truly and entirely given up on him.

"Time was tight. I only verified the handwriting. I'm sorry." He pressed his lips together. "It's possible Mrs. Bridges was blackmailed, or maybe it really is a forgery. I will dig deeper."

Sienna maintained eye contact, smiling thinly. "And have you thought about who might have blackmailed Mrs. Bridges?"

Jarred's brows immediately locked together. The guilt that had filled his eyes a second ago was instantly swallowed by a layer of displeasure.

Sienna knew he understood. He knew exactly what she was implying.

But he just refused to believe it—or rather, he refused to admit it.

Looking at the smile on her face, Jarred's frown deepened.

Her directing that kind of smile at him made him feel worse than if she had screamed in his face.

"Celeste has no reason to harm Mrs. Bridges," he said coldly, a clear warning lining his tone.

"Mrs. Bridges saw her fighting with your grandfather with her own eyes. Celeste was the one who shoved him into the sweetbriar trees!"

Sienna's expression suddenly turned frigid. She was absolutely sick of having to repeat this explanation.
