Begging for a Second Chance (Sienna Sloan and Jarred Sterling) novel Chapter 50

Sienna watched his retreating back until he disappeared from sight. Only then did she let out a long breath, as if a crushing weight had been lifted off her shoulders.

She steadied herself, forcing her emotions back under control.

Barely making it through the rest of her shift, she dragged her exhausted body back to her small apartment.

At the entrance to her street, a newly installed streetlight illuminated the cobblestone path with crystal clarity.

Sienna's footsteps faltered.

The last time Jarred had mentioned installing a light here, it was done by the very next day.

He was always brutally efficient. If he wanted something done, he could flawlessly execute it in record time.

But... if it were another woman, would he be just as considerate?

Like Celeste? Or any woman who managed to catch his eye?

The moment the thought crossed her mind, whatever trace of warmth she felt completely vanished.

She shook her head, refusing to dwell on it any longer, and reached out to unlock her front door.

But the moment the interior lights flicked on, Sienna's entire body went rigid.

Sitting right in the middle of her living room sofa was the absolute last person she wanted to see.

Jarred's grandmother.

Eleanor was perched elegantly on the cushions, draped in expensive silk, hands resting over a carved Rosewood Cane.

The disdain and anger etched into her features deepened the moment she laid eyes on Sienna.

The temperature in Sienna's eyes plummeted. She let out a dry, mocking laugh. "Is breaking and entering a hobby for everyone in the Sterling family?"

Eleanor frowned sharply. "What do you mean?"

"I did hand him the divorce papers, and as you saw yourself, I moved out of Solstice Hill that very night." Sienna offered a cynical smile.

"It's just that your grandson doesn't seem to want a divorce. He tore the papers up with his own hands."

Silence hung in the air for a tense second.

Eleanor's eyes widened in shock before she vigorously shook her head. "Impossible! Jarred doesn't even love you. He and Celeste—"

"I wish it were impossible, too," Sienna cut her off. "But those are the facts. So, Eleanor, if you're so desperate for us to get divorced, you're better off going home and convincing your golden boy."

She took a step closer, staring the matriarch dead in the eyes. "If he signs the papers before the end of the month, I will personally pay you twenty million dollars for every day he signs early."

Those words felt like a vicious slap right across Eleanor's face.
