"Watch out!"
A hand shot out, grabbing Sienna's wrist.
A split second later, she was pulled into a cold embrace.
Sienna looked up, her heart pounding.
She saw Caleb looking tense, clearly startled.
"Thank you," Sienna nodded at him.
Caleb let go, opening his mouth to speak.
Suddenly, he groaned, his expression twisting from relief to agony.
Sienna watched as his body jerked forward, as if something had yanked him from behind.
She instinctively looked down.
A grappling hook, lined with vicious barbs, was ripped from his back.
Drops of blood stained the metal.
Sienna gasped.
Turning her head, she saw several figures standing in the misty rain on a nearby ridge.
The man leading them wore black tactical gear, his features carved from ice.
His expression carried the arrogant dominance she knew to her very core.
Jarred!
His fingers were still curled around a Rescue Grappling Hook, dripping with fresh blood—the very weapon that had just struck Caleb.
Behind him stood two team members, along with someone else—a woman in a white coat holding an umbrella, watching the scene with feigned shock.
Celeste.
Sienna's mind went completely blank for three seconds.
A blinding wave of fury surged through her veins.
"Jarred! Are you out of your mind?" She quickly supported the unsteady Caleb, panic and anger lacing her voice. "What are you doing?"
Jarred said nothing.
He casually tossed the hook to the man behind him, striding over to Caleb. He stood before him, looking down with a predatory smirk.
The smile was mocking and vicious.
"Can you walk?" she asked.
Caleb nodded, his face still flushed.
Sienna helped him to his feet and turned to leave.
Jarred's hand froze in midair.
Sienna didn't even glance his way as she guided Caleb forward.
Jarred stood rooted to the spot, watching her stubborn, distant silhouette. His face was thunderous, radiating a terrifyingly heavy aura.
Celeste walked up beside him, her gaze trailing after Caleb. She murmured, feigning innocence, "That guide is quite handsome. He's young, and his smile is so gentle, just like Maloney..."
The surrounding temperature seemed to plummet to absolute zero at her words.
Even the two rescue workers behind them sensed the dangerous shift.
Celeste, however, wore a mask of pure innocence as she sighed softly, watching the retreating pair. "Jarred, Sienna seems... really mad.
I've never seen her get so worked up over a guy before. If she knew you took such a severe punishment for her, how touched would she be?"
Would Sienna be touched?
Absolutely not.
