Betrayed by Blood: My Second Life as a Queen novel Chapter 117

Before he could finish, a resounding slap echoed through the hospital room.

Sterling's head snapped to the side from the force. His eyelashes fluttered rapidly before he squeezed a suppressed laugh out of his throat. "Wow, Lucian, you're pretty fired up. Did I hit a nerve? I never thought someone like you would actually have a weak spot."

Lucian's face remained expressionless, but his eyes were like pools of dead water. "Sterling, you have a death wish."

It wasn't a question; it was a statement.

Sterling burst out laughing from deep within his chest. He touched his swollen cheek and busted lip, his smile growing even wider. "What can I say? The more you threaten me, the more I want to meet her. You're an engaged man, Lucian. How can you compete with me?"

Lucian's gaze grew darker. Sterling smirked in delight and slowly got to his feet. "I've dated enough women to know exactly what young girls need. While you're stuck here and can't get back to The Federated States, do you think I can take your place?"

He stared into the mirror somewhat narcissistically. "After all, besides our eyes, the rest of me looks exactly like you. And I'm younger."

"Get out," Lucian said, his voice dropping to a freezing register, his eyes practically iced over.

Sterling didn't mind the hostility at all. He chuckled and walked toward the door. Just before stepping out, he glanced back over his shoulder. "If you want to come back and fight for the inheritance, you'd better be prepared to pay the price."

"Is that so?" Lucian's silver-gray eyes locked onto him. He suddenly curled a corner of his lip. "I've never known what it means to pay the price. But you're about to find out."

Sterling had no idea what he meant by that, but he didn't give it much thought. After all, with the old lady critically ill and comatose, the Jagger family was currently plagued by internal strife and external threats. It wasn't as if Lucian ruled the house alone. What kind of storm could he possibly stir up?

Sterling scoffed, assuming it was all just a bluff, and completely brushed it off. After leaving the hospital, he headed straight to a club to have some fun.

That night, as he drunkenly stumbled his way home, a speeding motorcycle suddenly hurtled right toward him. Sterling sobered up instantly. Swearing under his breath, he scrambled toward a bus stop for cover.

Unfortunately, human legs were no match for a motorized engine.

A second later, the screech of tires tore through the air. Sterling was sent flying, his body slamming heavily onto the pavement. One of his legs twisted at a grotesque angle. Cold sweat broke out all over his forehead as the agonizing pain forced an uncontrollable groan from his lips.
