At that thought, Lucian immediately messaged Arthur Wright: [Postpone tomorrow's meetings. I need to fly out of the country.]
Arthur didn't even ask questions, replying instantly: [Understood. Boss, there is a highly urgent meeting the day after tomorrow. You absolutely must be present.]
Lucian knew his priorities. [Understood.]
Ending the conversation, Lucian set his phone down and stared at the ceiling, his mind utterly consumed by Willow's message.
During this entire time, Willow hadn't reached out to him once. She didn't seem to care whether he stayed or left, and hadn't even asked a single question about the whole fiancée situation.
It was as if to her, Lucian simply didn't matter.
For the first time in his life, he felt a deep sense of insecurity. His heart pounded fiercely against his ribs, screaming with an urgent need to see Willow.
That night, Lucian experienced a rare bout of insomnia.
At the first light of dawn, he boarded a flight back to The Federated States.
He had scheduled to meet her in the afternoon. Unsure if she'd even be willing to see him, he hesitated for a few minutes before buying sunglasses and a mask. He then used temporary dye to turn his hair pitch black before heading to their agreed location.
They had arranged to meet at a popular coffee shop, and Lucian arrived an hour early.
Willow pushed open the door right on time, her gaze immediately landing on the man seated at the booth.
He was incredibly tall, looking to be around six foot three. That height easily reminded Willow of Lucian.
But that man had long since returned to The Sovereign Isles and couldn't possibly be here. Plus, the hair color and everything else were completely different.
Willow chuckled softly to herself, feeling like she was losing her mind to be thinking of Lucian at a time like this.
For all she knew, he was probably out on a sweet date with his fiancée right now.
