On the other side of the hospital, Willow arrived at the office before Asher.
Before she could push the door open, she heard a fierce argument erupting from inside.
Beatrice Landon's shrill voice was piercingly loud. "Adelina! You better get this straight! If the Landon family hadn't offered you a salary higher than the market rate back then, you would have starved! Now you think you're such a hotshot and want to leave The Landon Medical Center? How can you be so utterly ungrateful!"
Elias tried to play the peacekeeper. "If you want a raise, I'm open to it, but isn't resigning a bit impulsive? Adelina, you're not getting any younger, and you have two kids to feed. If you don't even have a stable job, how are your children going to live with any dignity in the future?"
Beatrice immediately chimed in. "Let me tell you, Adelina, if you really dare to walk away, don't blame The Landon Group for showing no mercy!"
The threat was clear: they were going to come after her.
Furious, Willow shoved the door open. "I must have lived too long to see dogs standing up and speaking human words."
Her gaze locked onto Beatrice as she mocked, "Dr. Sterling has brought in so much revenue for your hospital that she's more than paid off her salary. How do you still have the nerve to threaten her? Be careful I don't expose all of this! Let the whole world see what kind of trash runs The Landon Medical Center!"
Beatrice lost her mind with rage. "Willow, why are you everywhere?! You're intentionally trying to ruin the Landon family, aren't you!"
Willow scoffed, not even bothering to entertain her. She turned and slapped Adelina's resignation letter right onto Elias's chest. "A resignation letter is a notification, not a negotiation! If you refuse to let her go, you can just keep paying her salary. She's not coming back anyway."
Watching Willow's petite frame stand protectively in front of her, Adelina couldn't help but let a warm smile reach her eyes.
The feeling of being fiercely defended was a novelty, but strangely addictive.
Elias stared at Willow, then suddenly asked, "Since when did you get so close to Adelina? Is she resigning to go work for you?"
Willow raised an eyebrow. Elias was sharper than he looked, guessing it that quickly.
Before she could speak, a cool voice rang out from behind her. "Willow came to see Dr. Sterling regarding my condition. Stop causing trouble, Elias."
Surprised, Willow turned around and saw Asher.
Had the sun risen from the west?
Since when did Asher ever speak up to defend her?
She had no idea what scheme he was playing at now. He was probably just trying to steal something of hers to give to Tessa as a gift.
