Tessa's expression went rigid. She cursed Asher a thousand times in her head, but outwardly, she couldn't afford to show the slightest slip. She could only defend herself with a wronged tone, "Asher, Leo misunderstood things on his own. He wasn't tricked..."
Asher didn't even spare her a glance. He merely stated coldly, "Think whatever you want to think. There's no point in arguing with an idiot anyway."
The blatant, passive-aggressive insult infuriated Tessa. Just a month ago, Asher had doted on her unconditionally. How had he flipped on her so completely in such a short amount of time?
Taking a deep breath, she decided not to engage with Asher. Instead, she turned her pitiful gaze toward Julian. "Julian, you believe me, don't you? I'm not lying. It's just been so long that my memory is fuzzy. Besides, there's no reason to obsess over something from so long ago, right?"
Julian kept his eyes fixed on her. In the past, he probably would have dropped the subject just to comfort her.
But now, his mind was entirely occupied by the image of that slammed door and Willow's calm, damning declaration that he was hopeless.
He couldn't convince himself to just brush it off anymore. In fact, the more frantic Tessa seemed, the more suspicious the whole thing felt.
Seeing Julian stay completely silent, panic gripped Tessa's chest. She secretly pinched her own thigh, forcing herself to maintain her composure. A second later, massive tears began cascading down her cheeks.
Under his scrutinizing stare, her scalp went numb. She had no idea what to do next.
Choking on a sob, she desperately tried to change the subject. "Please, can you guys help me? I really don't know what to do. Mrs. Landon keeps pressuring Elias and me to get a divorce..."
Tessa waited with bated breath for their comfort, but the hospital room remained dead silent. Not a single person spoke.
Xavier was simply too weak to speak, and since he had no way of resolving her marriage crisis anyway, he didn't know what to say.
