Willow furrowed her brows as she looked at Julian. A stark, angry handprint blossomed across his cheek, rapidly bruising and looking terrifyingly out of place on his usually refined, pale face.
Willow was startled by him, completely bewildered by his sudden breakdown. "If you're sick, go see a doctor. Stop annoying me!"
Despite being cursed at, Julian didn't get angry. His eyes only grew redder as he stubbornly asked, "Willow, you were the one who submitted the evidence against Silas Stone back then, weren't you?"
Willow stayed silent for a second. "What's the point of bringing this up now?"
She had indeed poured her heart out for the Shaw family once, even risking her own life to help them.
Only God knew how terrified she had been when Silas Stone dragged her to that hotel.
She had known perfectly well that the drinks Silas Stone handed her were spiked, but she couldn't refuse. She had secretly taken a preventive remedy beforehand just to keep herself from losing consciousness too quickly.
After successfully extracting the confession she needed, Willow had used every ounce of willpower in her body to escape. But even so, those following days had been an absolute nightmare.
If she hadn't coincidentally discovered that Ruby was drowning in gambling debt, she never would have been able to trace the breadcrumbs to the mastermind and clear Julian's name.
Thinking back on it now, Willow almost hated herself for being so sharp. If she had been just a little more oblivious, Julian would have carried that permanent stain for the rest of his life!
Even though she didn't say any of this out loud, Julian was smart enough to read it all in her eyes. He knew exactly what she was thinking.
A suffocating wave of regret crashed over him, pulling him underwater, only to drag him back up right before he drowned. The cycle of torment was unbearable.
