Trying to cover up her embarrassment, she took a hurried bite of her dumpling and stammered, "I—I have an appointment soon. I need to go."
The amusement in Lucian's eyes deepened. "Do you need me to come with you?"
There was no way she could handle being around him right now. She would literally die of awkwardness.
She shook her head rapidly. "No, I'll be fine on my own."
With that, she bolted out the door, only to be intercepted the second she reached the lobby.
It was a familiar face.
Tristan Sterling. Lucian's top corporate lawyer.
She blinked in surprise. Before she could ask, Tristan explained, "Ms. Shaw, Mr. Jagger sent me to review the contract for you, just to make sure there are no hidden traps."
Willow's expression softened. She glanced back up at the building. Lucian hadn't chased after her, likely to save her from further embarrassment.
But when she looked at the window, she locked eyes with him instantly.
His silver-gray eyes looked lighter through the glass, framed by the golden morning light, making him look almost ethereal.
He was watching her with a gentle, laser-focused intensity, as if the rest of the world had completely faded away, leaving only her.
The heat of his gaze made her stomach flip. She quickly looked down and mumbled to Tristan, "Let's go."
Tristan opened the car door for her with practiced professionalism and drove her to the meeting point.
Jude had arranged everything flawlessly. He had selected a club he was intimately familiar with, run by a famously reasonable and honest owner.
Seeing Willow arrive, Jude stood up to greet her warmly.
She exchanged pleasantries and took a seat.
Glancing at the man across the table, she froze for a split second.
She recognized him.
