In that moment, Willow let out a bitter, mocking laugh.
Casting aside all decorum, she strode forward. The desk was completely empty—the item she was looking for wasn't there.
Losing control, she grabbed Tessa's trembling hand. Every word felt like it was forced out of her throat. "Tessa, take it out!"
Tessa was breathing erratically, completely caught off guard by Willow's sudden appearance.
Didn't Silas intercept Willow's invitation? How in the world did she get in here?
Tessa remembered that the Yale family had strict rules. Given Mr. Yale's high-profile status, uninvited guests were generally forbidden entry—unless they belonged to families like the Jaggers or The Lockwood Family, who had provided immense support to Mr. Yale and were granted special access.
Realization hit her.
York Lockwood must have pulled strings for Willow! After all, someone like Willow couldn't possibly know anyone in the Jagger family other than Sterling Jagger!
And Sterling would absolutely never help Willow.
Gathering her thoughts, Tessa forced herself to calm down, though her heart was still hammering against her ribs, her eyes quivering. "I don't know what you're talking about."
Willow's eyes turned arctic. She knew exactly how stubborn Tessa could be. Wasting breath arguing with her would only fuel her own rage.
Without a second thought, Willow reached for Tessa's handbag. Tessa fiercely shielded it, her voice spiking an octave in panic. "Willow! This is the Yale residence, not some place for you to throw a tantrum! Snatching my things like this—how are you any different from a common thief?!"
Hearing this, Willow instinctively glanced at Mr. Yale.
He was her parents' old friend and the mentor she desperately wanted to learn from. Naturally, she cared about what he thought.
When she looked up, Willow froze completely.
Mr. Yale was staring intently at her face, as if trying to look past her to see someone else. The sheer weight of emotion in his eyes was so crushing that it made her freeze mid-motion.
She remained stunned for a split second, but the next moment, a violent yank dragged at her wrist.
