Betrayed by Blood: My Second Life as a Queen novel Chapter 285

At that exact moment, Willow's eyelid twitched violently. She stared fiercely at Mr. Yale, unsure if she should reveal the truth.

It wasn't until Lucian's thumb gently rubbed her knuckles that Willow suddenly snapped back to reality.

She suddenly recalled that in her previous life, Tessa had been desperate to become Mr. Yale's apprentice. She had even leaked the news, publicly declaring that she was guaranteed the spot.

Willow knew Tessa reasonably well. If she didn't have absolute certainty, she would never have leaked such news so casually.

In other words, the Tessa of her previous life had very likely presented this silver keepsake locket.

Yet, she had constantly failed to secure the apprenticeship.

Did that mean Mr. Yale had known something was off about her from the very beginning?

Everything clicked for Willow in that instant. Mr. Yale did want to make amends to the Shaw siblings, but he fundamentally refused to acknowledge Tessa.

Even if he had been momentarily distracted by the silver keepsake locket, he maintained his own judgment.

Willow suddenly smiled. "Mr. Yale, do you want to know how my parents truly died?"

That incredibly simple sentence made Mr. Yale freeze on the spot. He looked up at Willow, his aged eyes remaining piercingly sharp.

He then raised his hand and dismissed the butler. "Stand guard by my study, and don't let anyone in."

Once the order was given, his gaze shifted to Lucian.

Lucian understood completely. He knew his boundaries and was well aware that his current status didn't permit him to be privy to such a massive secret. Nor was he arrogant enough to assume Willow was ready to share everything with him.

Standing up, he spoke softly to Willow, "I'll wait for you outside."

Willow's eyelashes fluttered as her gaze fell upon his face. There was not a trace of displeasure on his features, only sheer tenderness. "Be good."

For a fleeting second, an intense urge to share the secret with him washed over Willow.

But on second thought, it wasn't appropriate.
