And no matter what he did, he couldn't soothe her.
Lucian took a deep breath, casting a glance at the tightly shut study door. His gaze instantly softened.
It was alright, he would eventually figure out how to comfort her.
He would dry out every bit of the damp sorrow trapped within her soul, piece by piece. It wouldn't matter if it took ten years, or a hundred years.

Willow was completely unaware of what Lucian was thinking. At this very moment, she had stepped into the study with Mr. Yale, and the two sat down face to face.
Willow didn't beat around the bush. Taking a brief moment to organize her thoughts, she stated directly, "That silver keepsake locket is likely connected to the cause of my parents' deaths."
Mr. Yale was instantly taken aback. "They didn't die from an accident?"
For years, whenever the tragedy of the Shaw family was brought up, everyone responded with solemn sighs.
At the time, the police had declared it a robbery gone wrong.
The kidnappers were already notorious criminals on a wanted list who had taken countless lives for money. It was widely assumed that the Shaw family were simply unfortunate victims caught in their crosshairs.
After the kidnappers were arrested and executed, the case was considered closed. No one bothered digging into the underlying causes, assuming it all boiled down to terrible luck.
Even Mr. Yale had never questioned it.
Hearing Willow's words so suddenly left him utterly shell-shocked. He stared intently at her, hanging on her every word.
Willow shook her head. "I don't know the exact reason yet, but I can guarantee it wasn't a random accident."
She took a sip of her tea, detailing every fragmented memory she had managed to piece together for Mr. Yale, pairing it directly with the entries she had found in her mother's diary.
Upon hearing the complete story, Mr. Yale was completely stunned. His typically steady hands couldn't stop trembling, even knocking over the teacup on the desk.
It took him a long while before he managed to ask, dazed, "Are you telling the truth?"
