Betrayed by Blood: My Second Life as a Queen novel Chapter 297

What did this mean? Her father wasn't dead?!

Willow's fingers trembled uncontrollably as the traumatic memories of the disaster from her childhood flooded her mind.

It was true that the police had never recovered her father's body from the wreckage.

But after so many years of silence, Willow's initial, desperate hope had slowly withered into the quiet acceptance that he was gone forever...

And now, suddenly, someone was telling her that her father was still alive?

The text hit her like a freight train, short-circuiting her brain into total blankness. Operating on pure instinct, she immediately tapped the number and called the sender back.

*Beep—*

After a brief dial tone, the call was abruptly disconnected. She tried again, only to find the number was out of service.

She stood frozen in place, her hands shaking violently.

Lucian immediately sensed something was terribly wrong. He softly asked, "What's the matter?"

His voice snapped her out of her trance. Her fingers flew across the screen as she instantly began tracing the sender's IP address. The sender hadn't managed to mask their location in time—the IP was traced right back to Aston City, scarcely two miles away from where she was currently standing.

Without a second thought, she grabbed her purse and bolted for the door, desperate to hunt them down.

Lucian's eyes narrowed sharply. He shot out a hand and caught her wrist just in time. "Where are you going?"

Xavier and Asher both looked up at her in alarm. Unable to form a single coherent word, Willow simply shoved her phone screen toward Lucian, displaying the anonymous message.

One glance was all it took for Lucian's gaze to turn dangerously cold.

He stood up, pulling her firmly into his embrace, and murmured in her ear, "Willow, calm down. It's just a text. We haven't verified if it's real or not. What if someone is setting a trap for you?"
