Willow blinked slowly. In that instant, the lingering chill in her heart melted away. She couldn't help but wonder—if she had met Lucian earlier, would all those agonizing years have been replaced by this overwhelming warmth?
But it was okay.
It wasn't too late now.
Lucian picked out a soft, comfortable set of pajamas for her, went into the bathroom to draw a bath, and thoughtfully scattered some petals in the water. He stepped out and called to her, "Willow, go take a hot bath. Your body is delicate; you shouldn't be exposed to the cold."
Willow looked down at herself. She had held the umbrella properly the entire time, but the ferocious wind had blown rain against her, soaking the cuffs of her pants.
Other than that, she was completely dry.
Lucian, on the other hand, had purposefully walked on the windy side to shield her. Half of his body was drenched, yet he hadn't even seemed to notice. His only concern was her well-being.
Willow said earnestly, "I think you should go first. You look way worse than I do."
Lucian let out a low laugh. He leaned in close, his gaze intense and focused. "You care about me so much, Willow."
His stare was intensely hot, making Willow too flustered to hold eye contact. She reached out and pushed against his chest. "Sure, whatever you say. Just go take a shower."
The second her palm met his chest, Willow froze.
Half of his body was drenched. The thin silk of his dress shirt clung tightly to his chest muscles, completely sheer from the rain and clinging to his body heat.
The silk was incredibly smooth, almost mimicking the texture of bare skin.
It felt as if there were zero barriers between her hand and his bare chest.
Worse still, a certain hardened peak was making its presence shamelessly known beneath her palm.
Willow's face instantly burned crimson, her pupils dilating uncontrollably.
She snatched her hand back in a panic, feeling like an absolute creep.
The man who had just been 'taken advantage of' wasn't the least bit embarrassed. Instead, his Adam's apple bobbed as he let out a low, husky groan.
There was even a hint of unsatisfied craving lingering in those silver-gray eyes.
If he weren't afraid of scaring her off, Lucian would have grabbed her hand and pressed it right back where it was to let her feel it thoroughly.
Willow seemed to sense his dangerous thoughts. She jumped up and stiffly marched toward the bathroom. "I... I'm going to shower first."
Lucian felt a pang of disappointment, his gaze lingering on her fingertips.
Soft and slender. They looked like they would feel incredible.
Lucian watched her disappear into the bathroom, tugging at his wet shirt with a sigh. But a second later, the door swung open again.
He looked up, only to be met with a fluffy towel thrown straight at his face, followed by Willow's soft voice. "Your clothes are soaked. You can't keep wearing them. Take them off and wrap yourself in a towel so you don't catch a cold."
Lucian raised an eyebrow. Before he could even formulate a reply, the bathroom door slammed shut again.
Lucian grinned. *Was it his lucky day?*
