Willow's gaze snapped to her, her smile turning decidedly wicked. "I only mentioned him; I didn't say a word about you, did I? Honestly, Tessa, how do you even have the audacity to open your mouth in front of me? Coming here with Silas to break into the entertainment circle? Do you genuinely believe the industry will welcome someone with a criminal record?"
Tessa's face drained of color. She instinctively shot a panicked glance at Silas.
Silas looked entirely lost. "What criminal record?"
Tessa's stomach plummeted. Entering showbiz meant subjecting one's character to intense public scrutiny. Minor flaws could be suppressed, but a criminal stain would result in immediate, universal blacklisting.
She absolutely could not let her history be exposed right now!
If it was, Silas might actually drop her as dead weight.
Her pulse pounded in her ears. She knew she couldn't afford a shouting match with Willow right now—the more she provoked her, the more lethal Willow's counterattacks would be.
Swallowing her panic, Tessa tugged at Silas's sleeve. "Alright, let's just drop it. There are too many people around. It'll be a disaster if someone overhears this."
Thoroughly intimidated by the crazy bitch Willow had become, Silas gritted his teeth. His face twisted with suppressed rage, but he didn't dare utter another word.
Willow raised an eyebrow, let out a dismissive scoff, and turned gracefully toward the set.
She had no intention of exposing the truth right this second anyway. In fact, she was rather looking forward to Tessa gaining a bit of fame. Wouldn't it be infinitely more satisfying to rip away her facade and expose her past right when she reached the peak of her popularity?
The thought of Tessa and Silas facing the same mob mentality she had endured in her past life brought a genuine sense of joy to her heart.
Once Willow was out of earshot, Tessa lowered her eyes and asked, "Does Willow have connections in the entertainment industry?"
Silas scoffed. "Impossible! She's just putting up a front to make me regret cutting her off! Just watch. There's no way she's getting past the entrance. They'll throw her out in seconds."
Seeing his absolute confidence, Tessa let out a quiet sigh of relief. She smiled mockingly. "She hasn't changed a bit. Always making these grandiose, empty threats."
