Silas's first instinct was to check the director's reaction. Just as he feared, the man's face had darkened considerably, his brow furrowed, and his eyes practically radiating ice.
Shooting Willow a venomous, threatening glare, Silas quickly turned back to the table, forcing a desperate, placating smile. "Director, Willow is my biological sister, but we have a terrible relationship. She's always trying to cause trouble for me. She's just making this up to ruin my chances."
His brief stint in police custody had been heavily suppressed. Anyone without serious connections wouldn't be able to dig it up.
The Shaw family wasn't just old money; they had solid defense mechanisms in place. It wasn't information the general public could access.
Because of that, Silas had never once considered the possibility of it being exposed.
But who could have predicted that Willow was an absolute lunatic?!
She had ripped the secret out into the open without a second of hesitation!
Did she have any idea what exposing a scandal like that would do to his career?
She was doing this purely to destroy him!
York smirked faintly, his voice a slow, deliberate drawl. "Causing trouble? I don't see it that way. Since she's your biological sister, her words carry even more credibility, don't they?"
Silas was rendered entirely speechless, grinding his molars together so hard they felt ready to shatter.
Twirling a strand of Willow's hair around his finger, York added lazily, "Besides, I know Willow. She never lies."
Even though she appreciated York backing her up, Willow still snatched her hair back out of his grasp, shooting him a fierce warning glare for good measure.
Unbothered, York simply chuckled and nudged the dessert box back toward her, silently urging her to eat his apology gift.
Willow absolutely refused to touch another bite. She had only eaten a tiny piece, and he was already taking liberties with her hair. If she ate more, she'd practically be signing a contract giving him ownership over her.
