Betrayed by Blood: My Second Life as a Queen novel Chapter 348

The moment he opened the door, Butler Evans looked a bit surprised. "You're back early today, sir?"

York gave a brief nod, carefully extracting the glass from his coat, and placed it on the highest shelf of his display cabinet.

Butler Evans thought his employer had won some new artifact at an auction. But upon closer inspection, he realized it was just a cheap, generic glass you could buy three for a dollar at a street stall.

He stood there stunned for a long time, completely unable to comprehend the tastes of the wealthy.

Had his boss been scammed by some grifter?

Butler Evans didn't dare to ask, nor did he dare to speak.

After arriving in The Sovereign Isles, Lucian immediately went to check on his grandmother. Madam Margaret was recovering quite well lately; her condition remained stable with no irregularities.

He breathed a sigh of relief before coming clean. "Grandma, I'm planning to go to the palace and break off the engagement."

Madam Margaret was shocked by the earth-shattering statement, coughing violently several times before she managed to compose herself. "Is this for that little girl in The Federated States?"

Lucian nodded. "I can't hide anything from you."

Madam Margaret fell silent for a long time. Lucian felt a bit anxious. The engagement had been arranged by his grandfather, and he worried she wouldn't approve.

Though, even if she refused, he wasn't going to obediently comply.

But it would make things incredibly difficult.

The silence dragged on heavily. Lucian wanted to say something to ease the tension, but before he could speak, Madam Margaret finally broke the silence.

"Lucian, I won't stop you from making your own choices, but you need to think this through. Losing the royal family's backing will cause your father to pressure you. It'll bring a lot of unnecessary trouble, and moreover... Daphne is petty. She's bound to hold a grudge and come after you."

Lucian was stunned for a second before a wave of warmth flooded his chest. He let out a soft chuckle. "Don't worry, Grandma. I know exactly what I'm doing."

Hearing this, Madam Margaret couldn't help but tease him. "You love her that much?"

Lucian gave a solemn nod, a rare softness filling his eyes. "Grandma, it has to be her."

Madam Margaret chuckled, took a sip of water, and slowly replied, "Then go do it, Lucian. We only live once; your own happiness has to come first."

Lucian nodded, attentively helping Madam Margaret freshen up before quietly closing her door.

After leaving the Jagger Estate, he headed straight for The Solarian Palace.

The Sovereign Isles was half a day ahead of The Federated States, and right now, the sun was just beginning to rise.

The morning light washed over him, carrying a sharp, imposing edge.

The moment he completely left the Jagger property, Dominic asked in a low voice, "Are you sure? He's really going to break the engagement?"

"I'm sure," the figure in the shadows replied quietly. "Mr. Jagger, also, Willow is scheduled to attend 'The Celestial Composition Project' in two days. What do you think..."

Dominic smiled and took a sip of his wine, his tone chilling. "With such a perfect opportunity, I'd be doing myself a disservice if I didn't interfere. Go. Be thorough, and make sure you don't hit the wrong target."
