The moment the words left his mouth, he took a step forward, and a cold, hard barrel was pressed directly against her waist.
A shiver ran down Daphne's spine. She knew Lucian; she knew he was an absolute lunatic who wouldn't hesitate to pull the trigger!
What was worse, ever since he had taken over the Jagger family, he had quietly amassed unimaginable power. By now, his influence subtly overshadowed even the royal family itself.
Although Daphne was highly favored, the King would never go to war with the Jagger family just for her.
The gun cocked.
The crisp mechanical click sounded like fate issuing its final warning.
For the first time, Daphne was truly terrified, her voice violently trembling. "Lucian! If you... if you actually dare touch me, the royal family will never let Willow off the hook!"
Lucian merely grunted, his tone feather-light and utterly devoid of emotion. "Then we burn it all down together. I don't mind burying the Jagger empire right alongside the royal family."
Every hair on Daphne's body stood up as a deafening alarm bell rang in her head.
Lucian was a complete and utter psychopath!
A normal person would fight tooth and nail to protect their weakness, but not Lucian.
He was flat-out telling everyone that if anything happened to his weakness, he would take everyone straight to hell with him.
And unfortunately, the Jagger family was not an enemy anyone could afford to make!
No one would risk complete annihilation to call his bluff.
By placing Willow front and center and laying out the catastrophic consequences so clearly, he ensured that no one would ever dare lay a finger on her.
A man with nothing to lose feared nothing.
Nobody wanted to mess with a maniac like Lucian!
They certainly didn't want to watch their wealth and luxurious lives go up in smoke!
Daphne's voice cracked with a sob, endless jealousy consuming her heart.
Why was Willow the one who managed to walk into Lucian's heart? Why not her?
But no matter how jealous she felt, she forced herself to snap back to reality, biting down on her lip so hard she tasted copper. "Lucian, what exactly do you want?!"
Lucian's tone remained deadpan. "Was I not clear enough? I want to break off the engagement."
Daphne gnashed her teeth. "I don't have the authority to decide that. You have to speak with my father."
Lucian grunted in acknowledgment. "I know you're useless. I just came to warn you not to try anything stupid with Willow. Because next time, I won't waste my breath talking. The gun in my hand isn't nearly as reasonable."
Having said his piece, Lucian smoothly holstered the weapon, turned on his heel, and strode back into the palace without sparing her another glance.
Daphne stared at his retreating figure, trembling uncontrollably.
