Hearing those words, Willow pressed her lips into a tight, hard line.
A storm of conflicting emotions flashed in her eyes before she took a deep breath, forcing herself to slowly calm down.
She trusted Lucian; he would never do anything to hurt her.
Lucian gave her wrist a reassuring squeeze, then looked up at King Alaric. "Since we have reached an agreement, we won't take up any more of your time. Willow has been through enough trauma for one day. I'm taking her back to rest."
The King furrowed his brow. "She is also a participant in the Celestial Composition Project. We have strict rules. No participant is allowed to leave the palace grounds freely."
Lucian arched a brow. "That sounds like a problem for you to solve, Your Majesty. There is absolutely no way I am leaving her here. What if some other blind fool decides to target her again? You cannot afford the consequences of such a disaster."
The underlying mockery was crystal clear. It was a blatant insult to the palace's security, serving as a harsh warning that if a single hair on Willow's head was harmed, the blame would fall squarely on the crown.
King Alaric was practically vibrating with rage.
Lucian was utterly unreasonable!
But since the royal family was entirely in the wrong, and the King was terrified of jeopardizing the deal they had just struck, he could only grit his teeth and yield. "Fine. I will make a rare exception."
Finally satisfied, Lucian held out his hand. "Give me the Royal Seal of Passage. I won't have anyone stopping Willow and upsetting her."
Dizzy with anger and desperate to get both of them out of his sight, the King didn't even hesitate. He pulled out the royal seal and practically threw it into Lucian's palm.
The hostility didn't bother Lucian in the slightest. He had gotten exactly what he came for, and if anything, he'd just have to swallow up a few more of the crown's gold mines in the future to make up for the attitude.
