He pressed his lips into a thin line before slowly releasing her wrist.
In that moment, Willow felt a sharp pang of empathy. Whenever she had been discarded in her past life, she had worn that exact same look of terrified uncertainty.
Her defenses melted. Without thinking, she stood on her tiptoes and gently ruffled his hair. "Be good. I promise I'm not lying to you."
Lucian offered a low hum and slumped down onto the rug beside the sofa.
Even then, the grime and blood from his clothes stained the fabric. Willow sighed inwardly; she didn't own any men's clothing, so she'd have to buy him a few outfits too.
After making sure he was settled, she headed straight to the hospital.
She dropped off the milk-stained glass shard from her clutch at the toxicology lab for a rush analysis.
Once that was handled, she bought medical supplies. Given her background in medicine, she could easily patch up his wounds without a doctor.
Finally, she grabbed a few sets of clothes from a department store and headed back.
Along the way, her phone buzzed with a call from Leo. She glanced at the screen and immediately rejected it.
She knew exactly what he wanted—for her to crawl back and confess. To make sure they couldn't reach her, she powered off her phone completely.
The Shaws wouldn't be able to track her now!
Meanwhile, back at the wedding venue.
Leo was scowling at his watch. The ceremony was set to begin in ten minutes, and Willow was nowhere to be found. He had called her ten times, all sent straight to voicemail.
Tessa's eyes brimmed with tears. "Does Willow hate me? Did I do something wrong, Leo? I just wanted to be loved so badly, I couldn't help it... If only my mom and dad were still here."
